Audi Vs Trailer

Police report an accident involving a sedan and a trailer on South Main Street near its intersection with Mile Hill Road at about 7:14 am on August 27.

Police said that Mario Rivera, 43, of Danbury was driving a commercial 2006 Ford F-650 dump truck, which was hauling a utility trailer, northward on South Main Street and then slowed for traffic conditions.

Northbound motorist Rosemarie Chapdelaine, 56, of 33 Meadowbrook Road, who was driving a 2003 Audi A-4 sedan, then struck the trailer from behind, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Chapdelaine a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

DUI Incident

Police report that they were called to the area of 315 South Main Street (Route 25) at about 10:18 pm on August 18 to investigate a report of a one-vehicle accident.

Police said they found that a Ford Mustang driven by motorist Christopher Smith, 36, of Stormville, N.Y., had gone off the southbound shoulder of South Main Street and then struck a tree.

After investigating, police transported Smith to the police station and arrested him on charges of driving under the influence and making a restricted turn.

Following processing, police released Smith on $250 bail for a September 5 arraignment on the charges in Danbury Superior Court.

Cellphone Found

Police said that at about 2 pm on August 18, they learned that a white Apple-brand iPhone cellphone had been found in the area where Philo Curtis Road crosses above Interstate 84. Police are holding the device for safekeeping. The owner may claim it at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Jeep Vs Jeep

Police report an accident involving two Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV’s at the intersection of South Main Street, Meadowbrook Road, and Botsford Hill Road about 1:30 pm on August 23.

Police report that motorist Madison Kominski, 18, of Redding, who was driving a 2004 Jeep southward on South Main Street, stopped at a red traffic signal at the intersection, after which Kominski was struck from behind by a southbound 1996 Jeep driven by Steven Klucik, 23, of 161 Huntingtown Road. Police said Klucik had attempted to stop before the crash, but could not do so.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Klucik a written warning for following too closely.

Arrest Warrant

After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Ray H. Scheunemann, 24, of 21 Clearview Drive turned himself over to police at the police station at about 12:30 pm on August 22.

Police said they charged Scheunemann with evading responsibility and with failure to drive in the proper lane in connection with a motor vehicle accident.

The arrest stems from an incident late on the night of June 20 on the northern section of Swamp Road, police said. Scheunemann allegedly left the scene of a one-vehicle accident in which he was involved, according to police.

Following processing, police released Scheunemann on $250 bail for a September 5 court appearance.

Graffiti Vandalism

Police are investigating an incident in which someone defaced concrete surfaces at Newtown Skate Park at Dickinson Park sometime overnight on August 23–24. The vandal or vandals used a felt-tip marker to scrawl identifying graffiti “tags” on the concrete, police said. Anyone with knowledge of who committed the criminal mischief is asked to contact police Officer Scott Smith at the police station.

NHS Collision

Sometime between 8 and 11 am on August 23, an unknown light-colored motor vehicle struck and damaged the right front bumper of an unoccupied Mazda auto which was parked in the front parking lot at Newtown High School, police said.

Police learned of the incident about 3:40 pm that day, after which they started investigating. Police ask anyone who knows the offending motorist’s identity to contact them at the police station.

 

Found Keys

Police said this week that they are holding for safekeeping a set of keys which was found on June 9 at The Pleasance, on the southern side of the police station, near the intersection of Main Street and Sugar Street.

One of the keys in the set is designed for a Chevrolet motor vehicle; another key is used for a door lock at a commercial building, police said.

The owner may claim the keys at the police station at 3 Main Street.

Main Street Incident

Sometime between 9 and 11:12 pm on August 24, while an unoccupied 2006 Ford Freestyle SUV was parked alongside the northbound road shoulder of Main Street (Route 25) about 50 yards north of its intersection with East Street, an unknown driver of an SUV which has hard plastic fenders sideswiped the driver’s side of the Ford, damaging the Ford, police report.

The offending driver then continued onward without reporting the collision, police said. Police ask anyone with knowledge of the driver’s identity to contact Officer Bart Lorancaitis at the police station.

Turf Vandalism

Police report that they are investigating multiple incidents of vandalism to lawns in the Marlin Road area. Marlin Road links Toddy Hill Road to New Lebbon Road.

Police said that the intentional damage was caused by an unknown person driving a motor vehicle on the lawns sometime overnight on August 26–27.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the incident to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Sandy Hook Collision

Police report a two-vehicle accident in Sandy Hook Center about 4:35 pm on August 25.

Motorist Syed Ahmed 20, of 4 Cherry Heights Terrace was driving a 1997 Mazda Protégé eastward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Mary Olivieri, 58, of Southbury, who was driving a 2000 Subaru Legacy, was attempting to exit the commercial driveway at 100 Church Hill Road. police said.

In attempting to make a left turn out onto the street, the Subaru drove in front of the approaching Mazda, resulting in a collision, police report. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Olivieri a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

Riverside Road

Police report that while using radar speed-measuring equipment on Riverside Road, near Cherry Street, about 11:45 am on August 29, they determined that motorist Jessie Lee Thomas, 26, of 37 Alpine Circle was driving 40 miles per hour in a 25-mph zone, so they stopped Thomas to investigate.

Police said they charged Thomas with traveling unreasonably fast and with driving under suspension. Police said they released Thomas on $100 bail for a September 12 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Wrecker Mishap

Anthony Urena, 34, of New York City, who was operating a 2005 International wrecker, was parked in a residential driveway at 75 Marlin Road at about 9:17 pm on August 25, and was loading an unspecified vehicle onto the wrecker, when the wrecker’s emergency brake failed, police said.

The wrecker, which had the vehicle attached to it, then rolled backwards and struck a garage door, moderately damaging the garage, police said.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.
