If Only They Had Cameras

EASTON — Thomas Savard of Easton is exhibiting his latest body of work, “If the Old Masters Had Cameras,” at Easton Library until October 17.

Mr Savard’s artwork uses an unusual photographic process that he developed, aptly called “photo-impressionism.” He starts with a basic photograph and subjects a small portion of it to this process, creating the unforgettable images that have become his signature style.

“Very often it is not the photograph that is taken, but what is going on within the photograph that is much more interesting and thought provoking,” says the artist. By being mindful of the subject matter, directing and massaging the viewer’s focus and eliminating the extraneous clutter he has created a photographic environment that not only provides the viewer with an image, but requires him to think and to question.

The public is invited to meet Mr Savard during an artist’s reception at the library on Sunday, September 16, from noon until 3 pm.

Mr Savard has two pieces in the Fairfield Permanent Art Collection. His artistic past includes Best in Show at Burr Homestead for a hand-colored black and white photograph, Best in Show at the Norwalk SoNo Festival of the Arts, and numerous other awards, including the recent Honorable Mention bestowed upon his watercolor during the Easton Arts Council’s “Art in the House” at the Bradley-Hubbell house.

In addition to his career at Northrup Grumman Norden Systems, Mr Savard spends many hours volunteering his time on the boards of Easton Community Center, Samuel Staples Free School Scholarship Fund, and Fairfield Prep Alumni Association.

Easton Public Library is at 691 Morehouse Road (at the corner of Center Street; telephone 261-0134.
