Drug Incident

Police said that they responded at about 7 pm on January 7 on a “medical assist” call to a home at 4 Prospect Drive on receiving a report that a child there had ingested some medication not intended for the child and needed medical attention.

The unidentified child was treated and then released from Danbury Hospital, police said.

Following an investigation into the drug incident, at about 3 am on January 8, police charged Heather Lay, 40, of 4 Prospect Drive with risk of injury to a minor and with illegal possession of a controlled substance. Lay is the mother of the child who ingested the drug, police said.

The drug taken by the child is lorazepam, police said. Lorazepam, which is a sedative, is used for the treatment of anxiety, insomnia, and seizures.

After processing, police said they released Lay on $2,000 bail for a January 24 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

South Main Crash

A two-vehicle collision occurred on South Main Street near its northern intersection with Peck’s Lane about 2:09 pm on January 11, police said.

Police report that motorist Harriet Rosenfield, 83, of Southbury, who was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy station wagon on South Main Street, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Gabriela Romandi, 27, of 56 Botsford Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Subaru Impreza sedan.

There were no injuries. Police said they charged Romandi with failure to drive a reasonable distance apart and with driving with a suspended license. Police said they released Romandi on $100 bail for a January 24 court appearance.

Thefts From Vehicles

Police said they are investigating a series of overnight incidents on January 7– January 8 in which someone entered a series of unlocked motor vehicles on several streets and stole items from within the vehicles.

The vehicles were parked in residential driveways situated on side streets extending from Mt Pleasant Road. Items stolen included currency, coins, GPS automotive navigation units, wallets, and a laptop computer.

The vehicles were parked on Old Bethel Road, Taunton Lake Drive, Susan Lane, and Diamond Drive, police said. Police are investigating the thefts and ask anyone with knowledge of the incidents to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

BMW Vs Mercedes

Police said that motorist Deborah Gamble, 57, of 81 Alberts Hill Road, who was driving a 2006 Mercedes-Benz C-340 sedan, stopped at the intersection of Key Rock Road and Sugar Street at about 5:16 pm on January 4, after which motorist Carla Gregory, 47, of Redding, who was driving a 2006 BMW X-3 SUV, stopped behind the Mercedes.

The BMW then moved forward, striking the rear end of the Mercedes, police said. There were no injuries. Police said they issued Gregory a written warning for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Toddy Hill Road

Motorist Rocco Candella, 59, of Danbury was driving a 2006 Dodge Dakota pickup truck southward on Toddy Hill Road, near Sugarloaf Road, about 6:45 pm on January 8, when a deer ran onto the street, resulting in a collision, police said. Candella was not injured. Police took no enforcement.

Church Hill Accident

At about 4:13 pm on January 12, motorist Walter Bronson, 73, of Beacon, N.Y., was driving a 2001 Volvo S-80 sedan westward on Church Hill Road, as motorist Paige Crowe, 18, of Southbury was driving a 2007 Hyundai Elantra sedan eastward on Church Hill Road in a right-turn-only lane for the Exit 10 on-ramp of eastbound Interstate 84, police said.

The Volvo then attempted to make a left turn to enter the Blue Colony Diner’s parking lot, but the two vehicles collided, police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps members transported Crowe and a passenger in the Hyundai to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, police said. Bronson received a written warning for failure to grant the right of way, police said.

Safekeeping

Police said this week that they are holding for safekeeping a set of tools within a tool case which was found last June 18 near the intersection of South Main Street and Mile Hill Road. Police said the tools’ owner may contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841, to claim the tools.

Moving Violations

Police report that at about 12:32 am on January 16, they stopped motorist Alexandra Cameron-Braley, 30, of 14 Currituck Road to investigate on Glover Avenue, near its intersection with Meadow Road.

Police said they charged Cameron-Braley with traveling too fast and with driving under suspension. After processing, police released her on $100 bail for a January 31 court appearance.

 

Four Vehicles

Police report that four unoccupied vehicles were involved in an accident in an industrial parking lot at 12 Commerce Road late on the morning of January 12.

Police responded to the parking lot about 10:53 am to investigate the incident in which there were no injuries or any enforcement actions taken.

Police said that a 2000 International van, which was parked in the lot, rolled forward and then struck three parked vehicles. Those vehicles were a 2010 BMW X-3 SUV, a 2005 Honda Pilot SUV, and a Toyota Tacoma pickup truck, police said.

VW Vs Ford

Police report a two-vehicle accident near 6 Philo Curtis Road on January 15. Police said they learned of the incident at about 8:11 pm.

Motorist Roy Scheunemann, 23, of 21 Clearview Drive was driving a 1999 Volkswagen Golf northward on Philo Curtis Road, as motorist Rocco Briante, Jr, 52, of 39 Cobblers Mill Road was driving a 2010 Ford F-150 pickup truck southward and carrying three passengers, police report.

The Volkswagen then struck the Ford, after which the Volkswagen veered off the road and struck a tree and a stone wall, police said.

Scheunemann was transported to Danbury Hospital to be checked for possible injuries, police said. The accident is under investigation.

Church Hill Crash

At about 4:55 pm on January 13, motorist Theresa McMorrow, 53, of 12 Echo Valley Road, who was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango SUV, was attempting to exit the driveway of a gas station at 64 Church Hill Road, when the Dodge collided with a 2010 Hyundai Vera Cruz SUV being driven eastward on Church Hill Road by Michael Sepp, 46, of 3 Hedge Meadow Lane, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned McMorrow for failure to grant the right of way.

Wasserman Way

About 8:13 pm on January 12, motorist Julie Mooney, 49, of Partridge Lane was driving a 2009 Subaru Forester westward on the western end of Wasserman Way, when the Subaru struck a piece of metal debris that was left lying on the street following a three-vehicle accident that had occurred there about two hours earlier, police said. The Subaru got a flat tire. There were no injuries. There was no enforcement.

South Main Collision

Police said they responded to a report of a two-vehicle accident on South Main Street, near its intersection with Bryan Lane, about 5 pm on January 13.

Police said motorist Jay Lang, 41, of Fairfield was driving a 1999 Chrysler Concorde sedan northward on South Main Street and then stopped due to heavy traffic, after which the Chrysler was struck from behind by northbound motorist Lisa Benjamin-Sette, 53, of 156 Boggs Hill Road, who was driving a 2010 Honda Odyssey minivan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Benjamin-Sette a written warning for following too closely.

Warrant

Police said that after learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, Evan Corigliano, 29, of Monroe went to the police station at about 11:40 am on January 14, and was charged with second-degree failure to appear in court.

Police said the court appearance charge stems from a two-vehicle accident on The Boulevard that occurred on June 3, 2009, in which Corigliano was charged with driving with a suspended license and with failure to drive to the right. That 2009 accident occurred at the sharp double curve on The Boulevard near its intersection with Hall Lane.

Police released Corigliano on $500 bail on January 14 for a January 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

 

Interstate Crash

State police report that motorist Hans Neisser, 60, of Middletown, who was driving a 2000 Kia Sportage SUV eastward on Interstate 84, about 500 feet west of the Exit 10 interchange at about 5:23 pm on January 10, slowed for heavy traffic and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist Timothy Brackett, 36, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2006 Chevrolet Trailblazer SUV.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Route 302

Police said they stopped motorist Charles DosSantos, 38, of 119 Dodgingtown Road for driving 52 miles per hour in a 40-mph zone on Route 302 at about 7:30 pm on January 15.

Police said that on investigating, they smelled the odor of marijuana in the vehicle that DosSantos was driving, so they brought in their German shepherd to investigate.

Police said they charged DosSantos with traveling too fast, possession of less than one-half ounce of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia (smoking pipe).

DUI Arrest

Police report a two-vehicle accident on Hawleyville Road, near the Exit 9 interchange of Interstate 84 at about 11:08 am on January 16.

Police said motorist Gbolagunte Laosebikan, 55, of Philadelphia was driving a 2006 Range Rover SUV southward on Hawleyville Road, as motorist Marcio Figueiredo, 35, of Ridgefield was driving a 2005 Dodge Ram pickup truck northward on that road.

The Range Rover then made a left turn directly in front of the Dodge, resulting in a collision, police said. Figueiredo was transported to Danbury Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries and released, police said.

Police said they charged Laosebikan with driving under the influence, failure to grant the right of way, and driving without a license,

Laosebikan was released on $1,000 bail for a January 31 court appearance, police said.

Slick Conditions

Police report that motorist Jack Belmuth, 51, of 14 Horseshoe Ridge Road was driving a 2007 Jeep Wrangler SUV southward on Poverty Hollow Road in slick conditions at about 5:55 am on January 17, when the vehicle slid off the pavement at the northbound road shoulder and then struck a fence at 45 Poverty Hollow Road.

Belmuth was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

Slippery Pavement

Motorist Thomas Harrison, 17, of 7 Old Purdy Station Road was driving a 2009 Honda CRV SUV northward near 12 Hattertown Road about 7:46 am on January 17, when the vehicle slid on the snowy/slushy road and then went across the southbound lane, struck some curbing and then traveled down an embankment, coming to rest against a tree, police said.

Harrison was not injured. Police said they issued him a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Snowy

During snowy conditions about 9:14 am on January 17, motorist Chloe Mora, 18, of 21 Cottonwood Trail was driving a 1999 Volvo S-70 sedan southward on Bancroft Road when the vehicle went off the northbound road shoulder and struck some metal guardrailing, police said.

Mora was not injured. Police said they gave Mora an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Slick Street

Police report that motorist Austin Cirella, 19, of 23 Saw Mill Ridge Road was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry sedan southward near 2-A Saw Mill Road about 1:49 am on January 17, when the vehicle went out of control on the snowy/icy road, slid off the pavement and landed in a ditch.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Cirella for making a restricted turn.

Dodge Vs Buick

Police said that motorist Tyler Hoffman, 17, of 181 Berkshire Road was driving a 1999 Dodge 2500 pickup truck on Elm Drive, as motorist Maria Imbimbo, 79, of Shelton was driving a 1991 Buick LeSabre sedan southward on South Main Street at about 5:17 pm on January 17.

The Dodge then attempted to enter South Main Street, but collided with the Buick, police said. Imbimbo reported neck pain, but declined medical treatment, police said.

Police said they issued Hoffman an infraction for failure to grant the right of way.

DUI Charge

Police report that while on patrol about 1:48 am on January 19, they spotted motorist Firmino Miguel, 41, of Bridgeport in a vehicle that was parked in the northbound travel lane of South Main Street, near its intersection with Mile Hill Road, so they stopped to investigate.

Police said they charged Miguel with driving under the influence. Police released Miguel on $100 bail for a February 2 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Three Violations

Police said that at about 8:31 pm on January 13, they stopped motorist Davila Magali, 44, of Bridgeport because the vehicle that Magali was driving near 30 South Main Street had defective brake lamps.

After investigating, police charged Magali with failure to have functioning tail lamps, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, and driving without automotive insurance.

Magali was released on a written promise to appear in court on January 27.

Berkshire Road

At about 5:40 pm on January 18, motorist Mihai Caratas, 42, of 3 Yogananda Street, who was driving a 2011 BMW 3-series sedan on Berkshire Road near its intersection with Wasserman Way, stopped for traffic conditions, after which the BMW was struck from behind by motorist Priscilla Jones, 48, of 5 Meadow Road, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Camry sedan, according to police.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Jones for following too closely.
