Hattertown Road Incident

Police report that motorist John Tracy, 18, of Bethel was driving a 2002 Subaru Legacy SUV southward near 223 Hattertown Road about 6:05 pm on May 30, when the vehicle went off the pavement and then struck a line of wooden guardposts and some guardcabling.

The accident occurred south of Hattertown Road’s intersection with Castle Meadow Road. There were no injuries.

Police report they issued Tracy a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Exit 9 Off-Ramp

According to state police, at about 4 pm on June 10, motorist Terrance Burton, 34, of Bridgeport, who was driving a 2007 Nissan Altima, struck the rear end of a 2003 Chevrolet K-1500 pickup truck driven by Domenic Cartelli, 48, of 14 Juniper Road at the end of eastbound Interstate 84’s Exit 9 off-ramp.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

I-84 Accident

State police said that at about 6:37 pm on June 10 at the end of Interstate 84’s Exit 11 off-ramp, motorist William Stimple, 20, of Seymour, who was driving a 2009 GMC Canyon pickup truck, struck the rear end of a 2011 Subaru Forester SUV driven by motorist Thomas Liacos, 58, of Shelton.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

DUI Charge

At about 11:22 pm on June 12, police responded to a report of a one-vehicle accident near 165 Berkshire Road, just west of Berkshire Road’s intersection with Bennett’s Bridge Road and Gray’s Plain Road.

Police report that motorist Stanley Girard, 66, of Derby was driving a 2001 Mazda Miata roadster westward on Berkshire Road, when he lost control of the vehicle on wet pavement, went off the right side of the road and struck some brush and rocks. There were no injuries.

Police said that after investigating, they charged Girard with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane. Girard was released on $250 bail for a June 26 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Highway Collision

On eastbound Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 7:44 am on June 13, motorist Lauren Jones, 25, of 14 Deerfield Drive, who was driving a 2014 Toyota RAV-4 SUV, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by motorist Marc Tannenbaum, 56, of Ridgefield, who was driving a 2003 Toyota Sequoia SUV, state police report.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

Main Street at Currituck Accident

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the hazardous intersection of Main Street and Currituck Road about 7:47 am on June 13, police said.

Motorist Alrick Man, IV, 54, of Fairfield, who was driving a 2001 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck southward on Currituck Road, attempted to make a left turn onto southbound Main Street, as motorist Ada Giusti, 62, of 1 Madison Drive was driving a 2013 Honda CRV SUV northward on Main Street, police said.

The two vehicles collided. Police said they issued Man a written warning for failure to obey a stop sign.

Scuffle Over Chewing Gum

Police report they responded to an incident at the Big Y supermarket at Newtown Shopping Village at 6 Queen Street at about 1:30 pm on June 13.

Police said they charged Dennis M. Beardsley, Jr, 33, of Fairfield with sixth-degree larceny (shoplifting) and with third-degree robbery. The robbery charge is a felony.

Beardsley allegedly attempted to steal a carton of chewing gum worth about $350, and when confronted by store security staff, Beardsley became involved in a scuffle with them, police said.

After processing the arrest, police released Beardsley on bail for a June 27 court appearance.

BMW vs Jeep

State police report that at about 2:45 pm on June 13, motorist John Crouthamel, 41, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV eastward on Interstate 84 in the area between the Exit 9 off-ramp and on-ramp, slowed for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by eastbound motorist John Martin, 31, of Danbury, who was driving a 2008 BMW 5-Series auto.

There were no injuries. Enforcement information was not available.

South Main Crash

Police report that motorist Clifford Boag, 56, of Easton was driving a 2014 Subaru Legacy SUV southward near 315 South Main Street and then stopped for traffic conditions, after which the Subaru was struck from behind by southbound motorist Patricia Wooten, 39, of 24 Mile Hill Road South, who was driving a 2014 Audi Q-5 SUV, at about 2:46 pm on June 14.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Wooten for following too closely.

Interstate Crash

At about 11:27 pm on June 15, trucker Lee Arndt, 53, of Harrisonburg, Virginia, who was driving a 2000 Mack tractor-trailer truck eastward on Interstate 84 about 150 feet west of Exit 11, stopped for heavy traffic conditions, after which the truck was struck from behind by eastbound motorist Ruben Vasquez, 43, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2008 Cadillac CTS auto, state police said.

Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Vasquez to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said. State police charged Vasquez with driving an unreasonable distance apart and with driving with a suspended license. He is scheduled to appear in Danbury Superior Court on June 30.

Boggs Hill Road

Police said motorist Serena Kiss, 18, of 16 Mt Nebo Road, who was driving a SUV, struck the rear end of a SUV driven by Crystal O’Sullivan, 30, of 12 Saw Mill Road.

The accident occurred about 3:54 pm on June 16 at a stop sign at the northern end of Boggs Hill Road at its intersection with Sugar Street, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they verbally warned Kiss for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Comic Books Stolen

Police report they charged a youth under age 18 with sixth-degree larceny (shoplifting) for allegedly stealing about $60 worth of comic books at Cave Comics at 55 Church Hill Road on the afternoon of June 16.

After processing, police released the youth on a written promise to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on June 30.

Because the person charged was under age 18, police did not provide the youth’s identity.

Box Truck Rollover

A two-vehicle accident, in which a large box truck rolled over onto its side on Berkshire Road (Route 34) near its intersection with Gray’s Plain Road and Bennett’s Bridge Road at about 9:40 am on June 16, caused extended travel delays and detours in that area.

Police said motorist Alexa Larsen, 46, of 123 Lakeview Terrace, who was driving a 2009 Honda Accord coupe, stopped at a stop sign at the end of Gray’s Plain Road, as trucker Steven Goodman, 56, of Ridgefield was driving a 2008 UD box truck westward on Berkshire Road. The Honda then entered the intersection, resulting in the two-vehicle collision, police said. The truck went out of control and then landed on its left side on the roadway.

Goodman was treated for injuries, police said. Larsen received an infraction for failure to grant the right of way at a stop sign, according to police.

Police, Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire & Rescue Company members and Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps responded to the incident.
