South Main DUI
Police said that they observed motorist Rita Gallagher, 40, of 58 Hilldale Drive, Sandy Hook, who was driving a 1998 Ford Explorer, cross the roadâs centerline and drive erratically southward on South Main Street near Hawley Road at about 11:17 pm on October 4.
Police said they stopped Gallagher and gave her field sobriety tests, which she failed. Police charged her with driving under the influence and failure to drive to the right.
After processing the arrest, police released Gallagher on a $50 bond for an October 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Weed Trimmer
At about 11 am on October 3, police received for safekeeping a weed trimmer, which was found lying in the middle of the road on Tunnel Road, near Currituck Road. The owner should contact police to claim the power tool.
Moving Violations
Police said they saw motorist John Malinowski, 48, of Bridgeport crossing the roadâs centerline while driving westward on Church Hill Road, near Queen Street, about 11 pm October 4.
Police stopped Malinowski and investigated, charging him with misuse of marker plates and driving without automotive insurance. Police released Malinowski on a $60 bond for an October 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Great Quarter Crash
Motorist Robert Dasilva, 36, of Pompano Beach, Fla., who was driving a 1993 Ford Escort station wagon northward on Great Quarter Road about 8:11 am October 4, lost control of the auto while rounding slight curve and slid off the right side of the road, striking a wooden guardpost, police said.
Dasilva was not injured. Police issued him a written warning for making a restricted turn.
Key Rock Accident
Motorist Janice Lavery, 57, of 4 Roosevelt Drive, who was driving a 1998 Subaru Legacy station wagon, stopped at stop sign on Key Rock Road at its intersection with Route 302 at about 3:30 pm October 3, police said.
Motorist Dennis Sisco, 57, of 5 Storm Ridge Road, who was driving a 2002 GMC Yukon Denali sport-utility vehicle, stopped behind the Subaru, police said.
Police said Sisco told them that he thought that Lavery was moving forward to turn right onto Route 302, so he drove forward, but struck the rear end of the Subaru.
Lavery reported back and neck pain but refused ambulance transport, police said. Police issued Sisco an infraction ticket for following too closely.
Intersection Collision
Police report a collision between two autos at the four-way intersection of Hattertown Road, Key Rock Road, and Poverty Hollow Road at about 4:14 pm September 30. Each of the legs of the intersection has a stop sign.
In the accident, motorist Karen Rumsey, 61, of 6 Black Cherry Lane, who was driving a 2003 Honda Civic, struck the passenger side doors of motorist Catherine Williams, 77, of 183 Hattertown Road, who was driving a 1995 Ford Escort, police said.
There were no injuries. Police issued Rumsey a written warning for failure to grant the right of way after making a stop.
Interstate Accident
Motorist Julian Cruwys, 37, of 24 Georges Hill Road, who was driving a 2002 Audi A-4-Q station wagon eastward on Interstate 84, about 900 feet west of the Old Hawleyville Road overpass about 4 pm October 3, slowed for traffic, state police said.
A 1999 Toyota Camry driven by Vicki Powell, 40 of Seymour, then struck the Audi from behind, police said. Powell then left the accident scene, state police said. There were no injuries.
State police later charged Powell with evading responsibility and tailgating.Â

Shoplifting/Paraphernalia
Police report that Justin Doutney, 22, of 11 Oakview Road was caught shoplifting eight DVDs at the Super Stop & Shop supermarket at Sand Hill Plaza on South Main Street on the afternoon of October 6.
Police said Doutney ran from store security personnel and was apprehended outdoors. Police said Doutney was found to be in possession of a syringe and a package containing a white powder residue.
Police charged Doutney with sixth degree larceny and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police released him on a $500 bond for an October 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.
Excavator Accident
Police said that while working on Wentworth Drive in the new Wentworth Estates residential subdivision off Poverty Hollow Road about 4:30 pm October 6, excavator operator William M. Joyce, 34, of 12 Shepard Hill Road was filling in a hole with gravel, when the excavatorâs bucket collided with a utility pole, causing the pole to break.
The pole appeared to be rotted in the area where it snapped, police said.
The damage caused the pole to tilt about 15 degrees off the vertical axis. The electric, telephone, and cable television utilities were called to the accident scene to make repairs. There were no injuries. The accident occurred on private property. Police took no enforcement.
Three Vehicles
Police report a three-vehicle chain-reaction accident on northbound Main Street near Edmond Town Hall about 11:30 am October 6.
Northbound motorist Adam Honeychurch, 33, of Woodbury, who was driving a 1999 Ford F-250 pickup truck, struck the rear end of stopped northbound motorist Carolyn Burson, 39, of 22 Canterbury Lane, who was driving a 2002 Lexus ES-300, police said. That impact pushed the Lexus into the rear end of a stopped northbound 2000 Subaru Forester station wagon driven by Garry Rogers, 34, of New Fairfield, police said. The Subaru had been stopped and waiting to turn left at 45 Main Street, police said.
The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Sean Burson, 9, who was a passenger in the Lexus, to Danbury Hospital for treatment of a head injury, police said.
 Police issued Honeychurch a misdemeanor summons, charging him with following too closely, driving an unregistered vehicle, and driving a vehicle without carrying the minimum required automotive insurance. Honeychurch is scheduled to appear in court October 17.
Breach of Peace
Police said a 14-year-old female student at Newtown High School made a threat against another student and also was found to be in possession of a knife.
At 8 am on October 7, police charged the 14-year-old with breach of peace. Police released the girl into the custody of her parents for an October 27 appearance in Danbury Juvenile Court. Because the accused person is under age 16, the identity is shielded from disclosure by state law.

Mobile Home
Police said they received a report on October 6 that two boys under age 16 were seen damaging a mobile home at the Meadowbrook Terrace Mobile Home Park at 55 Sugar Street. Police said they investigated, found the two boys, and charged each of them with second degree criminal mischief for the vandalism. Both boys are scheduled to appear in Danbury Juvenile Court on October 27. Because the boys are under age 16, police withheld their identities.
Intersection Collision
Motorist Jennifer Scarangella, 36, of 14 Poorhouse Road, who was driving a 2002 Ford Expedition, stopped for a red traffic signal at the intersection of Sugar Street, Main Street, Glover Avenue, and South Main Street about 2 pm October 5, police said. Motorist Mary H. Gaudet, 61, of 12 Whippoorwill Hill Road, who was driving a 1994 Saturn SL-2, stopped behind the Ford, police said.
The signal turned green and the Saturn moved forward, striking the rear end of the Ford, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Gaudet a written warning for following too closely.
Toddy Hill Deer
Motorist Linda Vibbert, 50, of Redding was driving a 1995 Ford Windstar northward on Toddy Hill Road about 4 pm October 3, when a deer entered the road, resulting in a collision, police said. Vibbert was not injured. There was no enforcement.
Buick Vs Nissan
Motorist Jennifer Orsi, 34, of Hamden, who was driving a 2002 Nissan X-Terra, was stopped for stopped traffic on southbound South Main Street at its intersection with Mile Hill Road at about 3 pm October 3, when the Nissan was struck from behind by a southbound 2002 Buick Rendezvous driven by Dana Kruzshak, 30, of 9 West Farm Ridge Road, police said. There were no injuries. Police issued Kruzshak a written warning for following too closely.
Church Hill Accident
Police report a two-car accident on westbound Church Hill Road near the Shell gas station about 3:15 pm October 5.
Westbound motorist Brian Rockwood, 27, of Sturbridge, Mass., who was driving a 2000 Chrysler Sebring convertible, made a right turn toward the gas station from the left-turn-only lane there and collided with westbound motorist Kristin Laplant, 24, of Brookfield, who was driving a 1997 Toyota Corolla, police said.
Police issued Rockwood an infraction ticket on charges of making an improper right turn and illegally driving with an out-of-state driverâs license beyond 30 days of residency. Police issued Laplant a misdemeanor summons for driving without automotive insurance.
