Vandalism, Etc

Police are investigating a vandalism spree that occurred in the Charter Ridge Drive area of Sandy Hook on the night of August 9.

In those incidents, unknown persons damaged and/or stole several curbside residential mailboxes, police said.

At multiple residences in that area, the unknown persons entered swimming pools and hot tubs without permission and threw objects into the water, police added.

Police ask anyone with knowledge of the crimes to contact them at the police station at 203-426-5841.

Riverside Road

Police said they stopped motorist Justin Apted, 26, of New Milford, who was driving a 1995 Honda Civic eastward on Riverside Road, near its intersection with Narragansett Trail, at about 11:19 pm on August 7 for not having the vehicle’s headlamps illuminated.

After investigating, police charged Apted with failure to have headlamps, driving with a suspended vehicle registration, and failure to have automotive insurance.

Police said they released Apted on a written promise to appear on August 21 in Danbury Superior Court.

Van Vs SUV

Motorist Anthony Joseph Proli II, 25, of Bethel, who was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV westward on Sugar Street, near Elm Drive, at about 9:38 am on August 4, stopped for traffic conditions and was then struck from behind by westbound motorist Darryl Johnson, 24, of Roxbury, who was driving a commercial 2006 Chevrolet Express van, police report.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Johnson an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Church Hill Crash

At about 5:53 pm on August 8, motorist Laura Dunn, 32, of Danbury, who was driving a 2006 Mini-Cooper, was traveling westward on Church Hill Road and then stopped at a red traffic signal at that road’s intersection with Commerce Road, police said.

When the signal turned green, the Mini-Cooper proceeded into the intersection, police said.

At that time, a 2011 Honda Odyssey minivan, which was being driven in the parking lot at 65 Church Hill Road by motorist Janet Baboo, 76, of Southbury, entered the intersection and collided with the Mini-Cooper, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Baboo a written warning for making a restricted turn.

Sandy Hook Accident

Motorist Pamela Eannotti, 46, of Ansonia, who was driving a 2009 Honda Civic sedan eastward on Wasserman Way at about 6:50 pm on August 9, stopped and signaled to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, police said.

Eastbound motorist F. Ansari, 17, of 14 Sunnyview Terrace, who was driving a 2006 Dodge Caravan minivan, then struck the rear end of the Honda, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Ansari a written warning for following too closely.

Evading

Police said they responded to a report of a motor vehicle accident in the parking lot of Figs, a restaurant at 105 Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, at about 1:51 pm on August 7.

Police said that their investigation found that motorist Ellen Fogle, 60, of 42 Platts Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Honda Civic sedan, struck an unoccupied a 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK-550 convertible in the parking lot and then left the scene.

Police said they went to Fogle’s residence and charged her with evading responsibility. Fogle was released on $100 bail for an August 21 court appearance, police said.

Moving Violations

Police said they stopped motorist John Maldonado, 22, of Stratford to investigate at about 11:42 am on August 8 on Wasserman Way near Oakview Road.

Police report they charged Maldonado with failure to wear a seatbelt and with driving with a suspended license. Maldonado was released on $100 bail for an August 22 court appearance.

Paraphernalia Possession

After learning that police held a warrant for her arrest, Cortney Troccolla, 25, of 155 Alpine Drive turned herself over to police at the police station about 5:30 pm on August 12 and was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, police report.

The arrest stems from a past incident. After processing, Troccolla was released on $1,000 bail for an August 23 court appearance.

Toyota Vs Chevrolet

While traveling in a parking lot at 5 Washington Avenue in Sandy Hook Center about 12:30 pm on August 7, motorist Thomas Gates, 87, of 20 Still Hill Road, who was driving a 2004 Toyota Prius, struck a parked unoccupied 2010 Chevrolet Aveo, police said. There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Diamond Rings

Police report that on August 6, a person lost two diamond rings. The area where the rings were lost is unknown, police said.

The two rings are intended for an upcoming wedding engagement.

Police described the two rings. One ring is made of white gold with diamonds encircling the band. The other ring is made of white gold with a center-mounted diamond, plus other diamonds positioned on the band.

Police ask anyone with information on the missing rings to contact them at the police station at 3 Main Street, telephone 203-426-5841.

Mt Pleasant Collision

A two-car accident occurred on Mt Pleasant Road near Blackman Road about 3:48 pm on August 10, police said. Both vehicles had been traveling southward on Mt Pleasant Road when the accident took place, police said.

The collision involved a 1999 Toyota Camry sedan driven by motorist Rachel Fintz, 19, of 53 Walnut Tree Hill Road, police said. The Toyota carried passengers Joseph Fintz, 79, and Lydia Fintz, 75, both of The Bronx, N.Y., police said.

The other motorist involved in the accident was Victor Montanezalicea, 18, of Waterbury, who was driving a 2001 Chrysler Concorde sedan, police said.

Police report that Joseph and Lydia Fintz were transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries.

Police said they issued Rachel Fintz a written warning for traveling too fast for conditions.

Also, police said they issued Montanezalicea a misdemeanor summons for driving an unregistered vehicle and for failure to have automotive insurance.

Sedan Vs Stroller

Police responded to an accident at the intersection of Washington Avenue and Pearl Street at about 7:48 am on August 11.

Police said that pedestrian Christine Miller, 45, of 72 Forest Drive was walking her dogs and also pushing a baby stroller, which contained a 19-month-old child, eastward along the westbound road shoulder of Washington Avenue, as a 2011 Kia Optima sedan being driven by Dongsup Hyeon, 18, of 31 Mountain Manor Road was making a right turn from Pearl Street onto westbound Washington Avenue.

The Kia then struck a front tire of the stroller, but the child in the stroller was not injured, police said.

Police said they verbally warned Hyeon for failure to grant the right of way to pedestrians.

Sandy Hook Center

About 6 pm on August 10, motorist Frederick G. Colgan III, 47, of Southbury was driving a 2000 Ford Taurus sedan westward on Church Hill Road in Sandy Hook Center, as motorist Deborah Kohanek, 43, of Danbury was driving a 2012 Jeep Liberty SUV eastward there, police said.

Both vehicles then attempted to enter a driveway leading to a parking lot behind 100 Church Hill Road, police said. The Ford and the Jeep collided.

There were no injuries. Police said they issued Colgan a written warning for failure to grant the right of way.

 

Mercedes Vs Lexus

Police report that motorist Patricia Brehaney, 46, of 30 Mountain Manor Road, who was driving a 2010 Mercedes-Benz E-550 sedan, and motorist James Baron, 81, of Redding, who was driving a 2007 Lexus RX-350 SUV, became involved in accident when both drivers were backing out of parking spaces at Rock Ridge Country Club at 214 Sugar Street at about 2:33 pm on August 7.

There were no injuries. Police took no enforcement.

Berkshire Accident

Motorist Virginia Wolcott, 57, of 3 Hickory Lane was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee SUV northward near 98 Berkshire Road at about 5 pm on August 12 and then stopped suddenly for traffic conditions, after which the Jeep was struck from behind by a northbound 1996 Toyota Camry sedan driven by Adriana Butera, 27, of Brookfield, police said.

There were no injuries. Police report they issued Butera an infraction for following too closely.

Ford Vs Honda

At about 1:40 pm on August 7, Nicholas Zampano, 22, of North Branford was driving a commercial 2000 Ford F-450 truck westward on Berkshire Road, as motorist Lynne Bailey Caldwell, 43, of Milford was driving a 2004 Honda Odyssey minivan eastward there, police said.

A westbound noncontact vehicle then stopped in the intersection of Berkshire Road and Sherman Street, resulting in the Ford swerving into the eastbound lane and colliding with the Honda, police said.

Caldwell was treated at the scene for minor injuries, police said. Police issued Zampano an infraction for making a restricted turn.

Boggs Hill/Hattertown

Police report that motorist Christian Spiller, 19, of New Milford, who was driving a 2006 Honda Civic coupe southward on Boggs Hill Road at about 12:48 am on August 10, did not stop for a stop sign on Boggs Hill Road at its intersection with Hattertown Road.

At that time, motorist Michael Perron, 33, of Ridgefield was driving a 1984 Jeep CJ-7 SUV eastward on Hattertown Road, police said.

The two vehicles collided in the intersection, police said.

The Jeep then drove off the road and struck a utility pole, police said. Jeep passenger Thomas Peters, 29, of Hardy, Ark., was transported to the hospital for treatment of injuries, police said.

Police said they issued Spiller an infraction for failure to obey a stop sign.

Police said they arrested Perron on a charge of driving under the influence. Perron posted $160 bail for an August 23 court appearance, police said.

 

Wasserman/Berkshire

A two-vehicle accident occurred at the intersection of Wasserman Way and Berkshire Road about 10 am on August 6.

Motorist Gregory Eisenhardt, 24, of Hamden, who was driving a 2012 Ford Fusion eastward on Wasserman Way, stopped in preparing to make a right turn onto Berkshire Road, after which a 2002 Lexus RX-300 SUV driven by Cleide Delfino, 40, of Danbury struck the rear end of the Ford, police said.

There were no injuries. Police said Delfino received an infraction for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Drug Charges

State police report that about 11:48 pm on August 9, they stopped a Volkswagen Passat to investigate on westbound Interstate 84, near Exit 9.

State police said they detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle, after which they conducted a search and then charged Colleen Garrett, 24, of New Milford with possession of narcotics and with possession of drug paraphernalia.

Garrett was released on $1,000 bail for a September 10 court appearance, state police said.

Motorcycle Accident

State police report that motorcyclist James Corbo, 48, of Poughkeepsie, N.Y., was driving a 2008 Honda on Interstate 84 near Exit 9 at about 7:26 am on August 13, when he took evasive action to avoid a tractor-trailer truck.

However, Corbo lost control of the motorcycle and drove onto the highway’s median where the motorcycle fell to right, resulting in Corbo receiving injuries to his right side, state police said. Corbo was wearing a helmet, according to state police.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Corbo to Danbury Hospital for treatment of injuries, state police said.

South Main Collision

At about 11:51 am on August 10, motorist Patricia Brush, 67, of Stony Brook, N.Y., who was driving a 2010 Honda Accord sedan, was exiting the driveway at 151 South Main Street, as motorist Maria Arpi, 28, of Danbury was driving a 2003 Toyota Camry sedan which was carrying one passenger northward on South Main Street, police said.

The two autos collided. All people involved in the accident were treated and released at the scene by ambulance personnel, police said.

Police said they issued Brush an infraction for failure to grant the right of way. Police report they gave Arpi an infraction for driving without a license.

Oily Road

In rainy conditions at about 1:37 pm on August 10, motorist Julio Zanette, 44, of Stratford was driving a 2005 Lotus Elise convertible eastward on Botsford Hill Road and was negotiating a curve in the road near the Housatonic Railroad bridge, when he encountered some oil on the wet pavement, resulting in the auto sliding and striking an embankment along the right road shoulder, police said.

Zanette was not injured. Police said they verbally warned him for traveling too fast for conditions.

I-84 DUI

State police report that while on patrol at about 2:14 am on August 12, they spotted a motorist driving a vehicle that was weaving in and out of the right lane of eastbound Interstate 84, so they stopped the driver to investigate.

After giving him sobriety tests, state police said they charged Kevin Burroughs, 42, of Chester Springs, Penn., with driving under the influence and with failure to drive in the proper lane.

State police said that Burroughs would be arraigned on the charges in court.
