Vehicular Violations

Police said they observed motorist Richard P. Haight, Jr, 18, of 99 Church Hill Road, Sandy Hook, driving a vehicle on South Main Street about 11:07 pm March 7 and stopped him to investigate.

Police said they charged Haight with operating a motor vehicle with an improper muffler, failure to have a valid automotive emissions sticker, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s license, and failure to return a suspended driver’s license to the state Department of Motor Vehicles.

Police said they issued Haight a misdemeanor summons on the charges and released him for a March 21 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Check Charge

 After learning that police held a warrant for his arrest, David Tressic, 35, of Danbury went to the police station on March 8 and surrendered to police on a charge of issuing a bad check.

Police said the charge stems from a bad check issued May 24, 2000, to Mt Pleasant Animal Hospital at 119 Mt Pleasant Road in Hawleyville.

Police said they released Tressic on a $215 bond for a March 22 appearance in Danbury Superior Court.

Parking Lot

Police said Kevin Butler, 38, of Southbury was using a 1987 GMC pickup truck to plow snow in the parking lot of Rand-Whitney Container on Edmond Road about 4 am March 7, when he backed up and collided with a 1989 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by John Pokladowski, 61, of 115 Forest Drive, Sandy Hook.

There were no injuries or enforcement actions, police said.

Route 302 Crash

Police report motorist Dawn Adams, 43, of 11 Pleasant Hill Road was driving a 1995 Ford Explorer westbound on Sugar Street about 2,000 feet west of Sugar Lane on March 9, when she slid on the slick road surface and went off the road backwards, rolled down into a ditch and struck a tree.

Adams was not injured. No enforcement action was taken, police said.

Main Street Accident

Motorist Edward A. Henner, 43, of 15 Sunset Hill Road, who was driving a 1996 Ford Windstar minivan about 10:20 am March 9, was making a right turn onto Main Street from the Newtown Savings Bank driveway when he struck a 1993 Honda Civic driven by Derrick O. Stuart, 39, of Bridgeport, police said.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Henner for failure to grant the right of way at a private driveway.

South Main MVA

Police report motorist Richard R. Frampton, 44, of 6 Pebble Road, who was driving a 1997 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck southbound on South Main Street about 11:40 am March 9, was stopped for a southbound vehicle, which was stopped and waiting to make a left turn onto the upper section of Pecks Lane, when the Dodge was struck from behind a southbound 1998 Oldsmobile sedan driven by Joseph R. Grimardi, 66, of Bradenton, Fla.

There were no injuries. Police verbally warned Grimardi for failure to drive a reasonable distance apart.

Jeep Vs Plymouth

Motorist Matthew A. Littlefield, 17, of Monroe, who was driving a 1993 Jeep Cherokee southbound on South Main Street on February 25, was making a left turn to enter the parking lot of Delancey Street Deli and Catering at 79 South Main Street, when he drove directly in front of an oncoming northbound 1994 Plymouth Sundance driven by Edwin R. Fremdling, 89, of Bridgeport, resulting in the Plymouth striking the Jeep, police said.

The Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported Fremdling and a passenger in the Plymouth, Florence Dropp, 81, of Bridgeport to the hospital for treatment of minor injuries, police said.

Police issued Littlefield an infraction ticket on a charge of making an improper turn.

 

Cadillac Crash

Motorist David Engstrand, 32, of Naugatuck was driving a 1985 Cadillac Sedan deVille westbound on Interstate-84 and was getting off the highway at Exit 9 in Hawleyville about 9:20 am March 9, when the Cadillac skidded off the off-ramp and struck the road sign for Exit 9, state police said.

The car came to rest on snow-covered turf. State police warned Engstrand for traveling unreasonably fast.

I-84 SUV Rollover

State police report motorist Susan E. Engler, 38, of 16 Bridle Path Trail was driving a 2001 Dodge Durango sport-utility vehicle in the left lane of two lanes on eastbound Interstate 84 east of Exit 9 about 3 pm March 7, when the Dodge veered to the center median, went out of control, rolled over and struck guardrailing.

Ambulance staffers transported Engler and right rear seat passenger Austin Engler, 19 months old, of the same address, to Danbury Hospital where they were both treated and released for minor head injuries, state police said.

State police issued Susan Engler an infraction ticket on a charge of failure to drive in the proper lane.

MV Charges

Police report they stopped motorist Barbara Bellemare, 34, of Waterbury on Church Hill Road about 1:15 am March 13 and investigated, lodging three motor vehicle charges against her.

Police said they charged Bellemare with misuse of marker plates, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, and operating a motor vehicle without a driver’s license.

Police released Bellemare on a promise to appear March 22 in Danbury Superior Court.

Sugar Street Crash

Police said motorist Amel J. Samuels, 18, of 128 Hanover Road was driving a 1984 Chevrolet Cavalier eastbound on Sugar Street about 4:10 pm March 6, when eastbound motorist Andrew B. Zolov, 30, of Fairfield, who was driving a 1996 Jeep Cherokee, overtook the Chevrolet, but due to road conditions, was not able to stop and struck the rear end of the Chevrolet. There were no injuries.

Police issued Zolov a written warning for following too closely. Police gave Samuels an infraction ticket on a charge of operating a motor vehicle with bald tires.

Two Deer Die

Police report two deer died as a result of a motor vehicle accident on the night of March 13 in Hawleyville.

Police said motorist Brian J. Hamilton, 26, of New Fairfield was driving a 1998 Nissan Maxima sedan westbound on Mt Pleasant Road near its intersection with Hawleyville Road just before 10 pm when two deer entered the road.

Hamilton attempted to avoid the animals, but could not, and collided with both deer, killing them, police said.

Hamilton was not injured. There was no enforcement action taken.
