Alice Galanin
Alice (Wakeman) Galanin, 94, of 990 Main Street North, Southbury, widow of
Edward Valery Galanin, died February 7 at The Lutheran Home.
A resident of Norwalk for 50 years, Mrs Galanin had moved to Sandy Hook in
1996.
Mrs Galanin was born January 14, 1905, in New York City, daughter of the late
Raymond and Alice (Avery) Wakeman. She worked for several lawyers in the
Norwalk area for 20 years and was a secretary for business journals and trade
magazines in Norwalk.
She is survived by her son, Raymond Edward Galanin of Seymour.
A memorial gathering will be held at a time to be announced. Burial will be
private. There will be no calling hours.
The Southbury Funeral Home of Munson-Lovetere, 235 Main Street North, Route 6,
Southbury, is in charge of arrangements.

Joseph Girgasky, Jr
Joseph J. Girgasky, Jr, 77, of Trumbull, beloved husband of Theresa (Hetes)
Girgasky, died February 4, in St Vincent Medical Center. He was the father of
Joseph Girgasky III of Newtown.
Born in Bridgeport, Mr Girgasky had been a Trumbull resident since 1950. He
was a World War II veteran of the US Army. Mr Girgasky was retired from
Avco-Lycoming. He was a member of the Slovak Catholic Sokols and VFW Post
10059.
In addition to his wife and son, he is survived by three daughters, Patricia
Falcone of Madison, Teresa Tichy of Trumbull, and Linda Petrow of Germany;
three sisters, Mildred Maltos, Rita Melesky and Bernice Mealey; seven
grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on February 8 at Pistey Funeral Home, 2155 Main Street,
Stratford, and in St Theresa Church with a Mass of Christian Burial. Interment
was in Gate of Heaven Cemetery.

John Schimanskey
John E. Schimanskey, 78, brother of Lillian Anderson of Newtown, died February
3 at Danbury Hospital. He was a longtime resident of New Fairfield.
He was born in Hartford, on November 2, 1920, a son of Walter and Edith
(Kingwell) Schimanskey, and was a veteran of service with the US Navy during
World War II. He had been assigned to the Pacific theater of operations and
was a pharmacist mate in Guam. Mr Schimanskey was been awarded the Bronze Star
for valor and efficiency while subjected to the bombing of Paruta.
After the war, he returned to Connecticut and associated with the former
Conner Engineering Company of Danbury, retiring with over 40 years of service
to the company. He was a charter and lifetime member of VFW Post 9257 in
Putnam Lake, N.Y., and had served in a variety of official positions, from
adjutant to commander.
Formerly married to Gertrude (Newman) Schimanskey, he is also survived by his
companion of over 17 years, Mabel Anderson of Danbury; his son, Christopher J.
Schimanskey of Blackhawk, Colo.; two daughters, Joanne F. Dwyer of Danbury and
Mary Lynn Kolby of Shrub Oak, N.Y.; two brothers, Walter Schimanskey of
Danbury and Francis Schimanskey of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; one other sister,
Theresa Hamed of Danbury; a grandson; four granddaughters; and several nieces
and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at St Edward the Confessor Roman
Catholic Church, New Fairfield, on February 6.
The Tomlinson Homestead, 336 Main Street, Danbury, was in charge of
arrangements.

James J. McKane
James J. McKane, 63, of Bridgeport, husband of Rose (DeNitto) McKane, died
February 5, after a valiant battle with cancer.
He was the brother of Garry McKane, Mae Hein and Pat Anzellotti of Newtown.
Mr McKane was a member of the former Bridgeport City Ambulance Service. A
lifelong Bridgeport resident, he was employed long term with the former
Associated Transport of Fairfield and Harvey Hubble Co of Bridgeport, and for
the last 30 years was employed with The Bridgeport Post and Telegram, and the
Connecticut Post newspapers.
Mr McKane was a US Army veteran of eight years, serving in post war Germany.
He was a life member of VFW Post #10059, Trumbull, and American Legion Post
#16, Shelton. He belonged to the Loyal Order of the Moose, #289 Bridgeport,
and the Mickey's Tavern dart team.
In addition to his wife, Rose, and his brother and sisters, he is survived by
his mother, Edith McKane of Bridgeport; a son, James F. McKane of Stratford;
three daughters, Clara McKane of Bridgeport, Desiree Cuccaro of Bridgeport,
and Donna Kearney of Meriden; a stepdaughter, Toni Stader of Georgia; one
other brother, Frank McKane of Seymour; four other sisters, Peggy Shimko of
Naugatuck, Millie Walters and Elizabeth Reckert, both of Florida, and Edith
Webster of Colchester; three grandchildren, Kristina and Kathleen Kearney, and
Natasha Schultz; step-grandchildren, Jennifer, Kyle and Sarah Jewett, and Joey
Stader; a special aunt, Clara Musone; many nieces and nephews; and his best
friend, Buck Henry.
Funeral services were held February 8 at Frank Polke & Son Funeral Home, 1546
Fairfield Avenue, Bridgeport.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Donald Prutting, Sr
Donald W. Prutting, Sr, 77, of Bridgeport, died February 4, in Bridgeport
Hospital. He was the father of Kenneth Prutting of Newtown.
Born on July 6, 1921, he was the son of the late George C. and Theresa L.
(Gleason) Prutting. Mr Prutting was an Army veteran of World War II, having
enlisted in 1939 and was discharged in 1945. He was a graduate of Warren
Institute and was a long time manager of Doyle's Restaurant until his
retirement.
He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Gannon) Prutting, and a son, Kevin
Prutting; a sister, Lillian M. Miklos; and a brother, Floyd C. Prutting. In
addition to his son, he is survived by four other sons, Donald W. Prutting of
Bridgeport, James P. Prutting of Litchfield, Thomas M. Prutting of Bridgeport,
Richard Rogers Prutting of Bristol, England; one daughter, Jean Reimer of
Massachusetts; eight grandsons, Sean and Scott Prutting, James, Brian, Dale,
Brendon and Chad Prutting, Richard Reimer; a granddaughter, Amber Reimer; four
great-grandchildren; a brother, G. Raymond Prutting of Stratford; a sister,
Dorothy L. Monks of Bridgeport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A funeral was held February 8 at Cyril F. Mullins Trumbull Funeral Home, 399
White Plains Road, and in St Charles Church. Interment was in Gate of Heaven
Cemetery with full military honors.
