Occupation: I’m a recent graduate of the University of Maine at Orono. I actually lived in Old Town, Maine, and their mascot was the Indians…. I studied biology. Right now, I’m applying to a master’s program in biology at Southern Connecticut State University. I’m hoping to get into a doctor of osteopathic medicine program eventually. In the meantime, I’m doing some landscaping and other jobs, and I’ll be starting a job at TD Bank in Westport soon.

Family: My mom and dad, Marty and Bob, live here in town. I have two brothers. Brendan and his wife, Sherene, live in Savannah, Ga., and my brother Andrew will be going to UConn this fall.

Pets: We have a 16-year-old Bichon, Frosty, and Eddison, our cat. We adopted her from Maine.

How long have you lived in Newtown? I moved here when I was in the second grade.

What do you like to do in your free time? I like to white water and sea kayak, and raft. During the summer, we go mostly to the Deerfield River in Massachusetts. I like to run, and I do a lot of biking. I do a fair amount of reading, too. I’m an EMT with Stony Hill in Bethel.

Do you have a favorite book? I would say Annapurna by Maurice Herzog, written in the 1940s. It’s about the first conquest of one of the 14 highest peaks in the Himalayas. It’s a pretty cool story.

Do you have a favorite travel destination? I do like Maine, especially the Penobscot Bay area. You can put your kayak down there and travel that whole chain of little islands, camp there. It’s great.

What is the best thing about Newtown? I think it’s the fact that my family is here. It’s nice to get some time to live with them again.

If you could do something you have never done, what would it be? I would try to sail the whole Eastern coast of North and South America in a small sailboat.

Do you have a personal philosophy? Take it easy. I say that at least a couple of times a day to someone. I try not to get too bent out of shape. It’s usually not worth it.

What makes you happiest? Having accomplishments that help other people. I like doing things that make other people happy. I enjoy the EMT thing because it really helps others. And I like guiding rafts over kayaking, because you get to introduce a lot of people to something new, and they become confident. They might be pushed to do something on their own.
