“The girls are really nice and it’s a lot of fun,” said Modzelewski, a sophomore who is new to the squad this spring.

Boys’ Results

On Tuesday, Ryan Hudock was first in the 100 meters (11.2) and first in the 300 hurdles (41.8). Jamie Goodwick took top honors in the 200 (22.9), the triple jump (40-2), and in pole vault (12). The 4x400 relay team of Steve Ashbolt, Kris Kling, Jon Toll, and Hudock came in first (3:35.6).

Hudock pointed out that this is the best NHS has been since he started running track at the school as a freshman. “I think we have our strongest SWC team yet because we’re so well-rounded. We have solid people in every event,” he said.

Hudock has recorded personal bests in the 100 meters, 300 hurdles, and in his legs of the 4x100 and 4x400 relay races.

Fellow senior Jamie Goodwick has had his best results of his career in the pole vault, triple jump, and 100 and 200 meter runs. He barely missed setting the school record of 11 seconds in the 100 meters, falling short by less than a tenth of a second this season.

Goodwick also believes the Nighthawks will do well in the SWC Championships, which are slated for Tuesday at New Fairfield. He attributes the team’s success to its experience given that there are 26 seniors on the roster.

“With all of the experience we have right now we should get top three in SWCs,” Goodwick said.

Bunnell seems to have the upper hand on all of the schools, but from there Newtown, Brookfield, and Weston are all competitive.

NHS narrowly beat Weston earlier this season and will look to bounce back after Tuesday’s loss to Brookfield.
