AC Caldo Soccer Team Is Second

The boysâ U13 premier soccer team, AC Caldo, placed second in its division at the Poughkeepsie Columbus Weekend Tournament.The team went 3-1-1 and had decisive wins over Pelham, Poughkeepsie and Fairfield and a draw with the TOPSC Sparks. The loss came against Ramapo, which went undefeated to win the tourney. The Caldo team has six Newtown boy: fullbacks Michael Cook and Constantine Gregoire; midfielders Ryan King and Knute Johnson; and Forwards Genti Limani and Kevin Droniak. The team is made up of boys from Newtown, Southbury, Woodbury, Roxbury and Danbury.

Hats off to the Newtown PD for another positive resolution. I truly applaud their patience and dedication—it’s impressive how they consistently deliver outcomes like this. This is the second time they’ve stepped up and prevented what could have been a much worse situation. It does make me wonder, though—any word on when we might hear the final outcome of the last incident through the court system?

No performative panic or recycled outrage here, just disbelief that the man who sat in our Oval Office for over 4 hours watching in glee while our Capital was overrun and our capital police attacked and beaten, and then tweeted to fan the fire to harm our Vice President got even one American vote.

Once again, one sees familiar talking points resurfacing — a blend of performative panic and recycled outrage, echoing the same dire warnings that have become almost ceremonial in certain political circles. Outrage that President Trump hasn't personally flown to Moscow and ended the Ukraine war with a handshake and a tweet — as if any president (let alone Biden, who spent his term confusing countries) could end a foreign war on day one. Trump’s success isn’t measured by how many editorials he triggers — though he’s clearly winning there — but by the fact that despite an endless stream of media hit pieces, investigations, impeachments, and lawsuits, Americans are still choosing him. Maybe, just maybe, they prefer results over rehearsed outrage. And as for the countdowns? They may need a few extra pages. 2798 days to go — because apparently, third terms are what real authoritarian nightmares are made of.

I have to love how the NIMBY crowd now opposes senior housing—yet if a developer proposed family homes on that same land, they'd be the first to complain that the added tax revenue wouldn’t cover the cost of more kids in the school system. On a more positive note, I’m excited to hear that Aquila’s Nest is looking to add a beer and liquor permit. They have such an awesome venue and host some of the most creative events in town. Every time I visit, I find myself wishing there were more drink options—so a beer and liquor selection would definitely be a welcome addition.
