Commissioners Appoint Fire Officials
The Newtown Board of Fire Commissioners conducted its annual meeting Monday,
October 23, at the Mona Lisa Restaurant.
At the session, commission members gather socially to consider the year that
has past and start planning for the future. A main order of business at the
annual meeting is the election of local fire officials.
The commissioners named George Lockwood to another year-long term as town fire
marshal.
Named to year-long terms as deputy fire marshals were: Allen Brinley, Joe
Cavanaugh, Bill Halstead and Henry Stormer.
Reappointed as commission chairman was civilian member Kevin Cragin.
Reappointed as commission vice chairman was Frank Johnson of the Hawleyville
Volunteer Fire Company.
Also serving on the commission are: Raul Camejo of the Dodgington Volunteer
Fire Company; civilian Lisa Goosman; William McCarthy of the Newtown Hook and
Ladder Volunteer Fire Company; Jeff Nezvesky of the United Fire Company of
Botsford; and Kimberly Sharpe of the Sandy Hook Volunteer Fire and Rescue
Company. The commission's secretary is Terry Hennessey. Its purchasing agent
is Edgar Beers.
The Board of Fire Commissioners is responsible for the financial management of
the town's five volunteer fire companies as well as overseeing the use and
maintenance of town-owned fire apparatus and equipment.
