Managing Nature
Managing Nature
To the Editor:
... And so it continues: a hard winter and a conclusion that spring will reveal many many deer dead from starvation. Right? If anyone in Newtown finds even one dead deer carcass as a result of starvation, Iâll be shocked. My point is: is it really about ticks... or tulips? Nature has disrupted humans gardens can you imagine?
Whatâs next? Woodchucks? Moles? Voles? Birds? After all, they may eat/impact your gardens. I have a secret spot where I see lady slippers (flower) every spring, and last year the deer snipped a few flowers off. This year, Iâm determined to hire a sharpshooter to protect them. Are we here to be part of nature, or are we here to attempt to manage it for our liking?
