Will Double As Fundraiser

DANBURY — Candlewood Fencing Center will host a Cribbage Championship & Fundraiser on Sunday, June 14. Registration will close at 10 am that morning for individuals, and 3 pm for teams, and play will commence shortly after that.

Early registration will close at midnight on Friday, June 12. Fee for that is $20 per person, and registration can be done over the phone (778-0808), by email (info@CandlewoodFencingCenter.com) or online (AskFred.net).

Registration done the morning of the tournament will be $30 per person.

There is a space limit for 128 individual players and 64 two-person teams.

Medals will be awarded to the top eight finishers in both individual and team competition. In addition, the first place individual winner will receive a Scottish basket hilt rapier and 20 percent of the entry fees; second place will receive emerald daggers and ten percent of the entries; and third place will receive gothic daggers and five percent.

The first place team will win a pair of Scottish claymore broadswords and 20 percent of the fees; second and third place teams will win emerald daggers and ten percent and gothic daggers and five percent, respectively.

All players should bring their own boards and cards, while bringing folding chairs and a small playing table is suggested.

Proceeds will benefit The Candlewood Fencing Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) corporation that is linked to CFC and provides equipment and membership, tournament entry fees and coaching, as well as classes and lessons to youth fencers whose families may be challenged financially.

“The economics have been bad for many families in the current recession and many have made the decision to suspend fencing for their children. We want them to continue,” said Tom Ciccarone, director of CFF Inc and owner of CFC. “The foundation’s mission statement reflects this on an ongoing basis.”
