Lightning Strikes To Win Kickoff Tournament
The Lightning, Newtownâs U12 girlsâ soccer team, won the Newtown Kickoff Memorial Day Tournament this past weekend. The girls did not allow a goal en route to the title. Game results are as follows:
Lightning 1, Danbury Fire 0: Sarah Lynch scored the lone goal of the game. Meaghan Brophy played shut-down defense and Kate Fallon, Emily Riley and Siena Cicarelli performed well in goal.Â
Lightning 7, Easton Chargers 0: Raquel Crespo and Emily Riley put forth a strong effort on offense. Riley and Kailee Dunnigan each scored twice and goals were scored by Crespo, Siena Cicarelli and Megan Meyer. Dale Shearin, Kelsey Muniz and Meaghan Brophy handled the nets for the shutout.
Lightning 10, New Milford Wolverines 0: Shelby Tolla, Meaghan Brophy and Raquel Crespo scored two goals apiece. Emily Riley, Siena Cicarelli, Kelsey Muniz and Megan Weber each had one. Kate Fallon played well on offense and Michelle Zarifis was tough at both ends of the field as Newtown did not allow a shot on goal.
Lightning 4, New Milford Hurricanes 0: Sarah Lynch, Kailee Dunnigan, Kelsey Muniz and Cassie Fischer powered the offensive effort, scoring one goal each in the final game of the tournament. Goalies Kate Fallon and Siena Cicarelli played tough to protect the nets. Meghan Korchman had a solid game on defense and Megan Meyer anchored the midfield.
