Federation For Food

To the Editor:

The Newtown Woman’s Glub GFWC, Inc members would like to thank the shoppers who so generously donated food and cash at our 3rd Annual Federation For Food collection this past Saturday, April 25, at Stop & Shop Sand Hill Plaza.

In these difficult times for many families, the need at both food pantries has increased. Both pantries are serving more families as the weeks go by. The Newtown Social Services offices, located in the lower level of the Newtown Police Station, houses the Salvation Army Food Cupboard and St John’s Church in Sandy Hook houses the FAITH Food Pantry. Both pantries will share in the donations collected on Saturday.

This is the third year that the club has celebrated Federation Day, which is the day in 1890 when the General Federation of Women’s Clubs was formed. GFWC is the largest women’s volunteer organization in the world, and the Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc has been an active member since 1968.

Thank you to all who participated — Stop & Shop for allowing us to collect food, the shoppers who made donations throughout the day, The Newtown Bee for its publicity, and to the members of the Newtown Woman’s Club GFWC, Inc for giving up part of their Saturday to help others.
