Junior Girls
Newtown Junior Gold 4, RE Lax 2: In their first game of the season the Junior Gold team moved the ball well and played great defense. Madeline Peck and Sierra Mather combined to make 5 saves in the goal and Alana OâDonnell led the team in ground balls with 6. Maddy Bridges dished out 2 assists and goals were scored by Liza Eggleston, Casey Harkins, Laken Hughes and OâDonnell.
Newtown Junior Gold 11, Ridgefield 3: Haley Keane and Tess Baldino played great on defense while Celia Gold and Maddy Bridges combined to make 7 saves. Charlotte Stenz led the team with 5 ground balls and helped to set up the offensive attack. Goals for Newtown were scored by Katie Mossbarger, Casey Harkins, Stenz, Lindsay Hoyt, Nikki Zaccaro and Alana OâDonnell.
Wilton Six 8, Newtown Junior Gold 5: The Junior Girls battled Wilton and the heat in a very close battle. Madeline Peck and Lindsay Hoyt combined for four saves in goal. Casey Harkins scooped up 6 ground balls. Katie Cappelli and Sara Annessly played well on attack while Harkins, Lindsay Hoyt, Bailey Solomons, and Sierra Mather all scored goals
Senior Girls
Senior Gold Girls 6, Wakeman 5: In a tough battle, the Gold secured the victory with a minute remaining when Bryanna Leblanc made a brilliant save. Carley Ferris and Emily Maher were solid on defense. Kelly OâSullivan and Casie Ekstrom picked off a couple of passes each. Kristy Vos Winkel and Erin Kenning combined for 8 ground balls at midfield. Maddie Fletcher and Paige Murphy each had an assist. Goals were scored by Vos Winkel, Meaghan Brophy, Julia Trudell, Meaghan Harkins and Caroline Kingsley.
Senior Gold 11, Wilton 9: Great defense played by Olivia Phenix and Jaclyn Dailey led the way. Bryanna Leblanc made 9 saves in goal. Julia Trudell and Meaghan Brophy controlled the midfield with hustle. Lindsey Jagoe, Allie Samson, Libby DiDomizio and Caroline Kingsley worked as a team on offense to keep the ball moving. Meaghan Harkins and Meaghan Brophy netted 3 goals apiece. Other goals were scored by Kenning, DiDomizio, Trudell, Maher and Ferris.
Senior Girls Blue 14, Brookfield 10: Senior Blue notched their first victory of the season backed by the stellar goaltending performance of both Olivia Korth and Ashley Headen who stopped a combined 7 shots. Ann Northrop, Amanda Crowell, Mary Beth Semosky, Olivia Korth, Noelle Benson, Maggie Kost, Meaghan Brophy and Kristy Vos Winkel all scored goals. Brittany Boggs and Julia DiLuoffo played strong defense.
New Fairfield 9, Senior Girls Blue 4: Taylor Reardon and Olivia Korth played solid in goal against an aggressive New Fairfield attack. Noelle Benson, Maggie Kost, Tressa Scott and Amanda Crowell scored for Newtown. Rachel Wiberg and Julia DiLuoffo led the team in groundballs. Julie LaPerch, Olivia Ingham and Kelsey Packer all played well.
Bantam Girls
Team 4 vs Team 5: For team 4: Carly Swierbut and Sarah Dowling played well. Goals were scored by Elizabeth Cain and Keeley Kortze. Elizabeth Hodge turned in an all around fine performance on both attack and defense. For team 5: Tessa Leon-Gambetta, Lauren Zimmerman and Jenna Carvalho played strong offensive games while Ashley Solomon and Sarah Widmann anchored the defense.
The Hound Dogs vs Team 5: For the Hound Dogs: Elisandra Daigle won many ground balls. Kira Smith played great in goal with several saves.Lauren Carrino scored a goal. For Team 5: Meghan Doyle and Jillian DiMartino played overall strong games and led the offense. Courtney MacDonald and Abigail Pearson were tenacious on the defensive side of the field. Courtney Carroll was solid in her first appearance in goal.
Screaming Eagles vs Smashers: For the Screaming Eagles: Alison Kelleher was strong on defense while Caroline Caporale was excellent in goal with 4 saves. Nikki Zaccaro played well on offense with 2 goals and Bridget Walsh scooped up 5 ground balls. For The Smashers: Julia Sughrue scored a goal. Emily Bell had an assist on a Dylan Zahansky goal. Alexa Leidlein played well on offense. Kayla OâRorke was fierce in the goal.
Bantam Boys
Roughnecks 5, Titans 1: The Roughnecks were led by the combination Stewart Olson, 4 assists, and Ethan Cox, 4 goals, who worked together to keep the offense highly productive. Cambell Halloran also had a goal. Alex Street and Kyle Roche worked hard for groundballs.
Bandits 4, Shamrox 1: Finding the back of the cage were Ethan Tousignant, 2 goals, Max Goldstein, 1 goal, and Griffin Cross, 1 goal. Kyle Good and Brennan Mayer were groundball machines to keep the Shamrox offense at bay. The Shamrox scored on a hard shot from Owen Rahr and were kept in the game by the relentless defense of Tucker Garrity and Jack McDermott.
Travel Results
New Fairfield Lightning 4 Blue 14, Newtown Lightning Blue 2: New Fairfield controlled the ball on offense for a majority of the game, but great defensive efforts were turned in by defenders Gordon Walsh and Gabriel Barrett. Goalie Ryan Campbell turned back several shots. David Anderson led the offense with multiple shot attempts and scored Newtownâs first goal of the season.Â
Newtown Junior Gold 8, New Fairfield 4: Great goaltending from Joey Santella and Jonathan Rospenda enabled Newtown to win. In the first half Joey Santella made numerous saves and was very effective clearing the ball. He also scored a brilliant wrap-around goal in the second half. Jonathan Rospenda made some great saves and several excellent outlet passes to his midfielders. At midfield, Nolan Fischer played outstanding defense and frustrated the attacks of New Fairfield. Newtown Junior Blue 9, Trumbull Junior A 6: Newtown had goals from Deegan Beauchemin, Aaron Hill, Colin Smalkais, Jason Savoca and Brandon Powell. The defense of CJ Dunn, Stephen Ferrigno, Nick Rubino and Colton Smith kept a strong Trumbull team in check and transitioned the ball.
Newtown Senior Blue 5, New Fairfield Senior Blue 4: Casey Fuller was outstanding in goal with 11 saves. Pat Cain and Tom Giarratano led a strong team defensive effort. John Meyers and JP Kitzmiller came up with two goals apiece. Pat Cain went end to end off a face off to score. Ian Whaley, Doug Miller and Andrew Derrickson each contributed an assist.
