The Language Of Scent

DERBY — The gardens are popping and scent is in the air at Kellogg Environmental Center and Osborne Homestead Museum. Visitors on Sunday, June 21, will be treated to a delightful encounter with their sense of smell.

At 2 that afternoon fragrance educator and coach Laura Donna will acquaint guests and their noses with classic perfumery ingredients and the woody, floral, fresh and oriental fragrance families.

From noon to 4 pm, at every half hour on the hour, visitors can also enjoy guided tours of the Colonial Revival gardens on the Kellogg Estate. Guests can also learn about Frances Osborne Kellogg’s passion for roses and conservation.

Osborne Homestead Museum explores the life and times of Frances Osborne Kellogg, who created tranquil gardens to have a peaceful place to retreat from the hectic world of the early 20th Century.

The program is part of Connecticut Historic Garden Day. Fourteen historic gardens throughout Connecticut will be offering gardens tours and programs on June 21. For a complete listing of events, visit CTHistoricGardens.org.

There is no fee for the program at Osborne Homestead Museum but donations are welcome. The museum is at 500 Hawthorne Avenue in Derby (off Route 34, watch for signs).

Registration for the perfume program is requested; call 734-2513.
