‘Gypsy’ Staged This Weekend At NHS

By Eliza Hallabeck

The Newtown High School production of the musical Gypsy is this weekend, starting Thursday, March 11, and running through Sunday, March 14.

On Monday, March 8, students were putting the finishing touches to the production during a rehearsal. Video from the rehearsal is available online at www.newtownbee.com.

Based on the memoirs of Gypsy Rose Lee, with book by Arthur Laurents and music and lyrics by Jule Styne and Stephen Sondheim, respectively, Gypsy tells the story of a demanding stage mother’s efforts to raise two daughters to be performers. Some of the well-known songs from the show are “Everything’s Coming Up Roses,” “Some People,” and “All I Need Is The Girl.”

The show will be presented at 7:30 pm Thursday through Saturday, and on Sunday at 2:30 pm. Tickets cost $10 each, and are available in advance by calling 203- 426-0678 or emailing GypsyTix@aol.com.

More information on the show is also available at www.nhschoral.com.
