Highlights From The Softball Diamonds

U8

My Place got its first win of the season. Abigail Clarke scored 2 runs while Sarah Brittin drove in 2 runs. Julia Anderson pitched well. Cate Norton and Heather Azzarito played great in the field. Coalition Equipment scored 6 runs behind the bats of Erin Burns, Zoe Beals and Caitlyn Child, each of whom went 3-for-3. Rachel O’Grady and Alex Watson also contributed at the plate and Danny Otero and Alexandra Nuzzo performed well in the infield.

Brookfield Dental 6, Caminuccios Pizza 6: For Brookfield Dental, Vanessa Tucker and Grace Corcoran provided big hits and led the offense. Kaysie Fisher and Samantha Gully both pitched well and made nice defensive plays in the field. For Team Carminuccio’s Pizza, Adelaide Meier pitched two good innings while getting a couple of hits. Lindsay Sherwood had three hits. Shannon Cheh also had a double and single and caught a line drive hit straight back at her while she was pitching. Tess Mubarek stopped a hard shot with bases loaded and two out in bottom of the fifth for the put-out to end the game.

U10

Polar Bears 6, Icepacks 2: For the Icepacks, Carly Kreshpan and Christina Moore played well in the field. Emily Bell, Katie Laaksonen and Madeline Meier had key hits. For the Polar Bears, Lauren Wilcox pitched a great game. Amanda Talbot and Victoria Clarke had key hits and Zoe Lloyd played great defense on the infield.

Newtown Hardware 8, Creative Mailing Services 4: For the Newtown Hardware Yellow Peeps, leading the offense was Lexi Tucker who was on base four times. Jillian Gibney and Ashley Gong were on base three times each. Annie Hoffman had a clutch hit too. Bidget Duero pitched two scoreless innings. Caitlyn Linden and Isabella Luciano also pitched well. Michaela Jackman and Lauren Villamana played great defense. For the Creative Mailing Services Penguins, Madeline Meier pitched a great first two innings. Kelsey Nicholson, Sarah Mawdsley, Madeline Meier and Emily Bell all had base hits and scoring runs for the penguins. RBIs were credited to Emily Bell, Christina Moore and Cassidy Keller.

CMS 8, My Dog Brand 1: The CMS Penguins jumped to an early lead with 5 runs in the top of the first on base hits by Nicole Frascatore, Cassidy Keller and Sarah Mawdsley. The pitching of Emily Bell and Madeline Meier and defensive play of Katie Laaksonen kept My Dog Brand from coming back. For My Dog Brand Chili Peppers, Grace Erney and Haley Ryan had good nights at the plate. Tegan Doherty pitched well and Natalie Shaker led the defense behind the plate.

U12

Taunton Press 11, Newtown Glass 10: Brooke Hadgraft had game-winning hit with bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth inning. Amanda Vitti provided strong pitching while Kelly Skewis had strong fielding at second base and Kaylie Daniels solid defense at third base. For Newtown Glass, Anna Guragano had three hits including a home run. Julia Frattaroli, Erin Bernardi and Brittany Gonzalez each contributed two hits apiece. Shaina Stamp led the defense with solid catching. Julia Frattaroli pitched well for Newtown Glass.

Newtown Glass 17, Taunton Press 5: Julia Frattaroli pitched two strong innings for Newtown Glass. Meghan Loagan and Anna Guarango led the offense with both going 3-for-3 with a double and two singles. Shaina Stamp played great defensively at third base and the catcher position. Nicole Chaloux made outstanding plays at shortstop. For Taunton, Shaina Evanko pitched well and made several plays in the field. Brianna Baranowski had several hits including a double. Amanda Vitti also hit well.

U14

Dr. Beck’s Pink Ladies 9, Newtown General Store 5: Sharing pitching duties for the Pink Ladies were Alena Ruscoe and Hannah Godbout. Offensively, Amanda Rowan, Caitlin Gibney and Alicia Cappoziello collected two hits each, while Ashonnie Hutchinson and Lauren McMahon hit solid singles for the Dr. Becks team. Defensively, the Pink Ladies turned a double play to end a scoring threat. For the Newtown General Store, Sarah Hull and Casey French pitched well. Mallory Ames, Julia LeBlanc, Georgia Contois and Amanda Finck all collected hits.

General Store 21, Southbury 4: Nadia El-Hag and Sarah Hull pitched well. Timely defensive plays were made by Amanda Finck, Julia LeBlanc and Heather Leone. The offense was provided by big hits by Mallory Ames, Georgia Contois, Shannon O’Gorman, Casey French and Kate Butera.
