ON THE ROAD/SHANNON HICKS
Put this into the I Told You To Just Be Patient file: SARAH McLACHLAN will
indeed be returning to Connecticut, this time to the Oakdale in Wallingford,
on March 31. The good news is, this time she will be able to play a full
concert on her own, without the abbreviatedness of the sets she was playing
during last summer's Lilith Fair dates (not that those sets were
unappreciated). The better news is, the second Lilith Fair is in the works and
just might return to The Meadows this summer, which would mean another visit
from the multi-talented McLachlan.
Tickets for the Oakdale show are going on sale Saturday morning (Jan 31),
through the Oakdale's box office. LISA LOEB will be doing the opening set.
Also coming to the Oakdale, HARRY CONNICK JR, February 2.
On the local music scene, SEDGEWICK has four shows coming up in the near
future, including one the band is hoping to see a good-sized turnout for, this
Friday night (Jan 30), at Bassetts Coffee House. The coffee house is on Route
7, just off the "four corners" intersection with Route 25, in the old Saga
location. Not difficult to find. Shows start at 8 pm.
In addition to this Friday, Sedgewick will be performing at Bassetts on
February 19 and February 28. There is no charge to get into these shows... how
much more incentive do you need??! (besides the fact these guys are good, I
promise!)
Also in February, the band will be at Bank Street Coffee House in New Milford.
That show is on the 7th, which is next Saturday, and it will be starting
around 8:30. Again, no charge to get in.
At Toad's Place in New Haven next month, TODD RUNDGREN will be performing on
the 15th, "with a twist," according to the club's schedule. The OUR LADY PEACE
show on the 26th is open to all ages. DICK DALE, Surf Guitar King himself,
will be at the New Haven club April 19.
Another reminder: Local bands, you guys can get announcements of your schedule
and performance dates added to the concert calendar as easily as everyone
else. Just call me at the office, send in a notice, or send some email to
shannon@thebee.com. This is a service to you and your fans, and probably the
easiest way to get your name and schedule known.
WFSB/Channel 3 news anchor AL TERZI was having a tough time getting into Cuba
to cover the Pope's historic visit last week. Apparently the station had some
problems with "Cuban bureaucracy," said FSB's news director.
The station had flown Terzi and a photographer to the Bahamas, because it is
illegal for commercial flights to enter Cuba directly from the US. However,
once Terzi had reached the Bahamas, the station learned its paperwork, which
had been submitted to the Cuban Consulate in New York, had not been through
all the proper channels from the Consulate to the Cuba end of the deal. So
Terzi and the photographer/cameraman were stuck, waiting for their connecting
flight to Cuba to be approved, and unable to provide live coverage for the
station. Which meant they were stranded in the Bahamas... (meanwhile, JIMMY
BUFFETT was in there, covering for Rolling Stone , and MARTHA STEWART was
there doing her Martha Stewart Thing... probably looking for ways to stencil
the Popemobile).
Why don't I get these assignments?? Until next week, I'll be seeing you... on
the cold roads of Connecticut, nowhere near the Bahamas!
