CWU To Host May Friendship Day

The Newtown unit of Church Woman United invites everyone to join its members for a celebration of May Friendship Day.

This year’s service will be presented Friday, May 4, in the community room of Nunnawauk Meadows, 3 Nunnawauk Road. It will begin at 1:30.

The theme this year is “Friends Under God’s Wing.” The theme encourages the opening of a dialogue about the things that will create compassionate and peaceful friendships with the voiceless and faceless women in the community and around the world.

The number of homeless in the United States has increased dramatically, and an overwhelming number of households headed by women still live in poverty. Joan Brown and Pauline Durrett Robinson, national CWU Celebration Committee members, have combined their talents to create a service that will reflect on the theme and challenge everyone to intentionally seek friendships with women whose voices are not being heard.

The annual dedication of offerings to the Fellowship of the Least Coin will also be part of the service. Attendees are reminded to bring pennies for this collection.

Light refreshments will be offered following the service.

For additional information contact CWU Newtown president Darlene Jackson, 426-5192.
