Get Ready For The Relay For Life
Get Ready For The
Relay For Life
To the Editor:
It is so hard to believe that this yearâs Relay For Life of Newtown is fast approaching â six weeks to be exact. This awesome community event will be held at the Newtown High School stadium on June 9â10. This will be the fourth year of relay in Newtown and we are so excited to bring you new, community minded events this year. We along with our honorary chair, Abbi Winters and her family, invite all to participate.
First weâll kick off with the âKids For A Cureâ Relay. This is an elementary aged version of Newtownâs community Relay For Life that incorporates fundraising and cancer education. It will take place prior to the official start of Newtownâs Relay For Life on June 9 from 3 to 5 pm on the high school track.
Then at 5 pm the opening ceremony will commence. At this ceremony, as with the survivor dinner, held immediately following the ceremony, we honor all individuals that have had cancer and their caregivers. Cancer survivors are our reason to relay. They are the ones that create a spirit of hope at Relay For Life. If you are or know of a survivor, please email us at relayforlifeofnewtown@yahoo.com or mail the name and address to the PO Box below so that we can include them in the ceremonies.
This year only, on Saturday between the hours of 4 and 8 pm, it is a great honor for our relay to host and offer the unique opportunity to participate firsthand in a landmark new study, the Cancer Prevention Study-3 (CPS-3). Find out more about CPS-3 by visiting www.cancer.org.
Of course, it would not be a relay without the Luminaria Ceremony, where luminarias are lit in honor or memory of a loved one that has been touched by cancer. Luminarias can be purchased from any registered participant or online. In addition, if you have a picture of a loved one you would like to be included in the ceremony, please send it along with their name to newtownrelay@gmail.com.
In addition to the food court and the many events and activities throughout the day/night, there will be a priceless way to help women fighting cancer â you can share you hair through the Pantene Beautiful Lengths program. Get your friends to bid at the auction to see you donate your hair. Eight inches of hair is all you need to make a difference.
Please be sure to visit the website at www.acsevents.org/ relay/ctnewtown for more details on all the above and more. Visit the Bulletin Board for fundraisers going on around town. Canât be on a team this year? Consider being a corporate sponsor or volunteering. There are so many opportunities to make a difference. Contact us at relayforlifeofnewtown@yahoo.com or at the address below.
Looking forward to seeing all of you!
