The United Way Says Thanks

To the Editor,

Too often we find ourselves concentrating on the negative, on differences, on what’s wrong, rather than on what’s right. And so, it is with great pleasure and with great thanks that the United Way of Northern Fairfield County (UWNFC) celebrates the success of our community fundraising campaign that commenced in the fall of 1999. By coming together as partners in our community building efforts, we raised $3,160,960 right here in our seven-town region of Bethel, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, New Fairfield, Redding, and Ridgefield.

In 1998, UWNFC conducted a community Priorities Study to determine the highest critical needs in our local area, needs such as education, daycare, substance abuse, neglect, elderly services, positive youth development, and so on. UWNFC’s Community Fund supports programs that address these highest, most critical community needs. In fact, volunteers are presently in the review process of determining funding of these programs, ensuring your donation goes to help people who most need it. As your partner, United Way is determined that your investment makes the greatest possible impact. Knowledgeable volunteers scan the community, letting you know what needs to change, what has changed, what’s wrong and what’s right.

Of course the only way we can make a difference is with support, and through the concern and commitment of citizens in each of our seven towns. With many volunteers, UWNFC ran fundraising campaigns in large corporations, small businesses, public school systems, nonprofit agencies, municipalities, retail stores, and the like. Because of your support, UWNFC and the Community Fund will be able to help your families, neighbors, friends, and coworkers receive the help they need.

When you support United Way, you are a community builder, and that is cause for celebration! On behalf of many in need, thank you.
