Pilot Project To Accredit

Day Care Providers

The Early Care and Education Training Institute this week announced a pilot project that will help family child care providers from throughout the Greater Danbury area become accredited by the National Association for Family Child Care (NAFCC).

The Danbury Family Child Care Accreditation Pilot Project will consist of 15 family child care providers who will have an opportunity to unite with other providers in a mentoring and self-study initiative resulting in accreditation. The FAFCC Accreditation Program is nationally recognized as the leading accreditation system for documenting high-quality family childcare homes.

This pilot project is funded by the Early Child Care & Education Training Institute, based in Newtown, the Connecticut Department of Education’s Community Resource Center, and the Morris Street Family Resource Center of the Danbury Public Schools, the Greater Danbury Family Child Care Association, Danbury Children First, and the Department of Social Services, as a component of the Connecticut Charts-A-Course accreditation Facilitation Project.

The pilot project will involve payment of fees, materials, 12 professional development activities, and one-on-one and group mentoring.

Family child care providers and parents are invited to attend an information/orientation session on Tuesday, March 6, from 7 to 9 pm at the Radisson Hotel and Suites on Mill Plain Road in Danbury. It is recommended that parents who use family child care encourage their provider to attend this session. For reservations or for more information, call the Early Child Care and Education Training Institute at 426-9663.
