Walczak Reelected
Chair Of IPN
The Independent Party of Newtown (IPN) has announced the that it has selected its officers for 2010, reelecting Bruce Walczak as party chairman.
The partyâs vice chairman is Po Murray; secretary, Karen Pierce; treasurer, Gianine Crowell; deputy treasurer, Anne Spillane. Donna Monteleone Randle is chair of the partyâs nominating committee.
The IPN consists of two types of members. Town committee members are registered as Independent; supporting members can continue to retain their national political affiliation (Democratic or Republican) or remain unaffiliated. Both town committee members and supporting members may be endorsed by the IPN for appointed office or run for elected office under the Independent Party Newtown.
Bruce Walczak, IPN chairman, commented that â2010 will bring continued changes to Newtown as our newly elected and appointed officials implement positions and plans made during the 2009 campaign.
âThe IPN will continue to support efforts to increase transparency, checks and balances, and accountability,â Mr Walczak said, adding that the âcomplete review of Fairfield Hills Master Plan and ordinance, efficient management of municipal and educational expenses and capital improvement funds, the engagement of the community on a long-term strategic plan, enhanced communications with the residents and protecting Newtownâs quality of life will be areas the IPN will focus on during the next two years.â
Po Murray, IPN vice chairman, stated, âIt has been a huge accomplishment to have ten IPN members elected to office in just two years. I have been encouraged by additional IPN members being appointed to various town boards and commissions by the Board of Selectmen. I hope to see more citizens of Newtown come forward to serve, to actively participate in town government. We can build greater consensus to benefit Newtown with variety of representation on town boards and commissions.â
If anyone is interested in becoming a member of the IPN, residents should visit www.IPN2009.com and contact any of the IPN officers.
