Developers Should Pay For Sewer Use

To the Editor:

Clearly the most important consideration for the Oakview Road condominium development is its potential effect on the environment. So if this project is desirable, sewering is the only alternative.

We must be careful in allocating the capacity of our sewer treatment facility. While the state might be willing to sell some of its capacity, we must realize that the state’s capacity is part of our overall local sewering capacity. It would seem more prudent for Newtown to sell the developers a portion of its capacity so that the money received could be utilized in expanding the plant and therefore adding to future economic development.

With the proposed development’s sellout of $50 million, the developer should be able to make a substantial payment to the Town of Newtown.
