Beautiful Baby Contest 2010 Announced

Lois Barber announces the beginning of the Beautiful Baby Contest 2010. Similar to the events the Sandy Hook resident has run in the past, this year’s Beautiful Baby Contest comes with a few changes.

The first is that, after two years of being presented by Newtown Junior Women’s Club, Mrs Barber is running the event on her own. And second, the proceeds from this year’s competition will benefit a new charity, Homes for Our Troops.

The contest is open to all babies (newborn to age 3) who live, or have a friend or relative living or working, in Newtown or the greater Newtown area.

This is not a live pageant, but a fun, inexpensive fundraiser to help our troops.

To enter, send a $20 check made out to Homes For Our Troops, with “entry fee” on the memo line, and a photo of your child trimmed to four by four inches (please note the photo will not be returned), with the baby’s name and a parent contact name and phone number written on the back, and send to Lois Barber/Baby Contest, 33 Zoar Road, Sandy Hook CT 06482.

The photos will be displayed on a voting booth, with date and place of voting to be determined. Votes are $1 each, and the winner will be determined by the number of votes they receive.

The winner will receive a fun-filled family prize basket, their photo printed in The Newtown Bee, and they will be included in Newtown’s Labor Day Parade on Monday, September 6.

Homes for Our Troops is a national non-profit, non-partisan 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2004. The organization is committed to helping those who have selflessly given to our country and have returned home with serious disabilities and injuries since 9/11. Homes for Our Troops assists severely injured servicemen and servicewomen and their immediate families by raising donations of money, building materials and professional labor, and coordinating the process of building a home that provides maximum freedom of movement and the ability to live more independently.

The homes provided by Homes for Our Troops are given at no cost to veterans.
