*The second Connecticut show by JEWEL, which was planned for October 2 at the Oakdale in Wallingford, has been cancelled. An October 5 show had been cancelled last week and I was able to get that announcement into last week’s column, but the news of the Wallingford show’s cancellation came in after deadline. Tickets for both shows will be fully refunded.

The reason for the cancellations was the death of Jewel’s bassist, Terome “T-Bone” Hannon, who was only 39 but succomed to a stroke on September 4. He was in his hometown of Detroit when it happened and had been a member of the singer-songwriter’s live band for three years.

Jewel has decided to go on the road for just a handful of solo shows – in Atlanta, Washington DC, Atlantic City, Boston, Gilford, N.H., and Providence – five of which are at venues Jewel was planning to play with her band. Plans to tour in the future are still being worked out.

*Tonight’s featured show will be the performance by TREBLEHOOK at Fireside Inn, 123 Main Street South/Route 25 in Newtown. The brothers Morgan (Alan and Brian) and Andy Spencer, having recently been joined by Dave Aston, should be starting around 9 pm.

*CHARISMA, with Newtown musicians Peter Obre and Kathy Buda, will be at Molly Darcy’s in Danbury on Thursday, September 25. Showtime is 9 pm.

The group learned recently it will be part of the Reed Intermediate School Dinner Dance-Auction event being planned for October 25 at The Amber Room Colonnade in Danbury. The band will then be playing again at J.C. Hooks in Waterbury on Friday, November 21, starting around 9:30.

*The mainstage entertainment at this year’s Durham Fair, which returns next weekend (always the last full weekend of September), will be JOAN JETT AND THE BLACKHEARTS on Friday, September 26, at 7:30; THE CHARLIE DANIELS BAND on Saturday, September 27, also 7:30; and country singer SARA EVANS on Sunday, September 28, at 3 pm. Admission to the fair is $10 for adults, $8 for senior citizens, and free for ages 11 and under.

*DEE SNIDER and the 80s band formerly known as TWISTED SISTER will play The Webster Theatre on October 26. SEBASTIAN BACH has an opening set.

*Tickets for a November 2 show, An Evening with JACKSON BROWNE, at Foxwoods Casino’s Fox Theatre, have gone on sale. Prices are $49.50 and $60.50; call 800-200-2882 to purchase.

*Also new this week is an October 21 show by BRUCE WILLIS & THE ACCELERATORS at Mohegan Sun’s Wolf Den. Showtime is 7 pm, but considering it’s freebie (all shows in the Wolf Den are), you may want to arrive early if you’re a big Bruce Willis fan.

Until next week I’ll be seeing you… on the road.

Questions and comments should be sent to Shannon Hicks c/o The Newtown Bee, 5 Church Hill Road, Newtown, CT 06470, or shannon@thebee.com, or call the office at 426-3141. Shows listed at club locations are for ages 21 and over unless specified.
