PEM LECTURE ON INDIA MARCH 10

AVV 2-28 #690229

SALEM, MASS. — The Peabody Essex Museum will present a lecture, “Mining the Mahabharata: How Husain and Others Have Reinvented the Epic,” on Saturday, March 10, at 4 pm in the Morse Auditorium.

The 2,000-year-old Mahabharata has been told and retold for centuries and continues to inspire contemporary artists. Award-winning Indian writer Shashi Tharoor, whose book The Great Indian Novel retells the Mahabharata as a saga of Twentieth Century India, explores why the epic continues to enjoy creative resonance today.

Tharoor is undersecretary-general for communications and public relations at the United Nations.

Reservations are due by March 8. The museum is in East India Square. For more information, 866-745-1876 or www.pem.org.
