SALEM, MASS. â The Peabody Essex Museum will present a lecture, âMining the Mahabharata: How Husain and Others Have Reinvented the Epic,â on Saturday, March 10, at 4 pm in the Morse Auditorium.
The 2,000-year-old Mahabharata has been told and retold for centuries and continues to inspire contemporary artists. Award-winning Indian writer Shashi Tharoor, whose book The Great Indian Novel retells the Mahabharata as a saga of Twentieth Century India, explores why the epic continues to enjoy creative resonance today.
Tharoor is undersecretary-general for communications and public relations at the United Nations.
