A Tribute In Verse

The following poem is by Sonja A. Grube, a nurse at Mediplex of Danbury.

9-1-1

The New York Towers crumbled down.

Terrorism ruled the sky.

Millions of people watched in horror.

They watched our people die.

Frantic last phone calls made

To whisper, “I love you.”

Innocent lives taken away.

There was nothing they could do.

Another world robbed our nation

Bringing us to our knees.

But God will hear our prayers,

This terror, he will seize.

The media reports in grim detail,

The carnage on the ground.

One hundred ten stories times two,

Lies in an ungodly, unsightly mound.

Our world was rocked

By evil, like no other.

Together we stand,

To rescue and recover.

Images of strength,

Wearing their protective gear.

Sift through the rubble for heartbeats,

Despite their exhaustion and fear.

Our men have lost their own,

With very little left  to gain.

Moments have turned into hours,

Of unspeakable, unbearable pain.

We salute our rescue workers,

All our firemen at “ground zero.”

God bless your heart and souls,

You are “the American Hero.”

It’s our shocking reality now,

The towers and the aftermath.

The terrorists responsible,

Must face America’s wrath.

America stands tall and strong,

Amidst this tragedy,

We will find peace again,

For all our nations to see.

God Bless America,

Our country ‘tis of thee.

Share peace and love today,

And freedom eternally.
