NORWALK â Planning for life after high school for students with LD/ADD/ADHD needs to be a comprehensive, four-year effort on the part of students, parents, and professionals. To help in this effort the Connecticut Association for Children and Adults with Learning Disabilities (CACLD) is holding a conference on âLife After High School for Students with LD and ADDâ on Tuesday, April 10, from 6 to 9:30 pm at the Trumbull Marriott. It is open to all high school students, their parents, and professionals.
The conference will feature Rebecca Rich, Professor of Education and Director of Special Education at Manhattanville College. Dr Rich also directs the program for college students with learning disabilities at Manhattanville. Her presentation will focus on the differences between high school and college, challenges for the students with learning disabilities, legal protection, support programs, and indices of success.
A panel of college students will discuss what has and has not worked for them. Patricia Pezzullo, Director of the Learning Resource Center at Mitchell College, will be the facilitator.
The conference will include a panel of representatives from various non-traditional college-based programs, semi-independent living programs, and community resources for the student not considering college.
There will also be exhibitors from colleges, alternative programs, a bookstore, and resource materials.
High school students can attend free of charge. There is a small fee for parents and professionals. For registration information contact CACLD at 203-838-5010.
