Occupation: I have been a day care provider in my home for three years. Previously, I worked in the chemistry lab at Davis & Geck in Danbury. I also worked for the Newtown Health Department as a sanitarian for two years full time, then part time up to three years ago when I started providing day care. I have a bachelor of science degree in biology from the State University of New York at Brockport.

How Long in Newtown: I have lived here for eight years as of May. I grew up in Danbury, then went to school in upstate New York. When my husband and I were first married, we lived in Danbury for seven years. When we were looking to buy, we concentrated our search here. I’m glad we wound up here. There’s a nice community feeling in Newtown.

Biggest Change Seen in Town: In the Borough, the biggest changes have been the addition to the library – I’m glad they kept the character of it – and the sewer system. That’s a big change.

Family: My husband, Steve, and I have been married for 14 years. We have three children, Aaron, 11, who is in his first year at the Middle School; Ben, 9, who is in fourth grade at Sandy Hook School; and Danielle, 5, who is in kindergarten at Hawley.

Pets: We have a black lab mix, Hunter; two cats, Peach and Alley; two goldfish; and three chamelions.

Hobbies: I like to stay active. I take an aerobics class, and will start teaching it. I took up rollerblading – I love doing stuff like that. I also like to swim in the summer. I also enjoy projects in my house and yard. I have a lot of ideas – I’m a Martha Stewart wanabee. I like to take the kids on field trips. We go to zoos, museums, and aquariums. I enjoy crafts and working in the yard, planting flowers.

Favorite Books and Authors: I like to read a lot but most of my reading is to the kids. I read them the Harry Potter series. That’s been fun. My reading is mostly magazine articles. Occasionally I read novels, such as by John Grisham. I like suspense and light-hearted novels, nothing intense or depressing, but a book that is thought-provoking is good.

Favorite TV Show: I don’t watch TV a lot, but if I do I like something light, such as Friends, Frazier, and Will and Grace.

Organizations: I am tax collector of the Borough. I’m also involved in the Newtown Autism Parents Support Group, which meets once a month, and a member of St Rose Church.

Most Vivid Memory of Newtown: What I like about Newtown is the community feeling. When you picture a neighborhood, it’s mine. Neighbors are friends. We have a block party, and a lot of people come. It’s a great event. Other memories I have are of the Labor Day parade and the tree lighting. These are things that make Newtown a great community. I know so many people – it’s a nice, close-knit community.

Favorite Vacation Spot: I love the beach and the ocean, from Rhode Island to Maine.

Personal Philosophy: I’m an optimist. I try to look for a positive outlook. I truly believe you can do anything you want to do. You have to set goals that are realistic. My goal is to do things to make my family and myself happy.
