George F. Lewis
George F. Lewis, 73, a lifelong resident of Monroe, died March 8 in St Vincentâs Medical Center.
 He was the husband of Gertrude (Buchanan) Lewis of Monroe and the father of John Lewis of Sandy Hook.
Mr Lewis was born in Monroe, the son of the late Robert H. and Mina (Luckner) Lewis. He was the owner of Lewis Brothers Construction Company and retired ten years ago. An active member of the Stepney Volunteer Fire Department for many years, he served as chief from 1948 until 1951. He was also active in Scouting with his sons.
Mr Lewis is also survived by three other sons, David Lewis, Sr. of Monroe, Ronald Lewis of Monroe, and Richard Lewis of Bealton, Va.; one daughter, Karen Booth of Monroe; one sister, Beatrice Griswald of Huntington; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may attend the funeral on Friday, March 10, at 10 am, in the Redgate, Wilmot, West and Goulding Funeral Home, 406 Main Street, Monroe, with the Rev George W. Britt, pastor of Stepney Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will be in Stepney Village Cemetery. Calling hours were scheduled for Thursday, March 9, from 5 to 9 pm.
