Road Rage Incident Results In Arrest
Police report they arrested a local man on four charges following a road rage incident that led to a motor vehicle accident in Sandy Hook on the evening of July 12.
Police said motorist Kevin Merrill, 43, of 32 Philo Curtis Road, who was driving a 1995 Chevrolet truck northward on that street about 7 pm, came to a sudden full stop in the road in preparing to make right turn into the driveway at that address.
Northbound motorist Christopher Graves, 35, of 54 Far View Drive, who was driving a 1997 BMW 318-I sedan behind the Chevrolet, then honked his horn and drove around the Chevrolet, police said.
The Chevrolet then backed out of the driveway and tailgated behind the BMW northward on Philo Curtis Road, police said.
As the BMW approached the intersection of Philo Curtis Road and Riverside Road, it slowed for a stop sign, according to police. The Chevrolet then passed the BMW and suddenly attempted to reenter the northbound lane, but collided with the BMW, police report.
The two drivers then became involved in a verbal argument, after which police arrived. Neither motorist was injured, police said.
Police arrested Merrill on charges of reckless driving, following too closely, passing in a no-passing zone, and disorderly conduct. Police released Merrill on a promise to appear in Danbury Superior Court on July 28.
