SOUTHBURY — The Southbury Public Library and Friends of the Library will present a program, “The Evolution of a Poem,” by the Connecticut resident and prize-winning poet Polly Brody on Thursday, May 11, at 7 pm. During the demonstration program Ms Brody will show how a poem evolves in the poet’s mind and, ultimately, on paper.

Ms Brody is a former longtime Newtown resident. She earned a BA from Mount Holyoke College and an MS from Southern Connecticut State University. She has been widely published and is a founding member of Wood Thrust Poets, whose poetry video was shown on CPTV is 1986-87.

Ms Brody’s latest release — and her first full-length poetry collection to be published — was Other Nations, which came out last year.

She is also a biologist, and lectures and teaches on animal behavior. Much of her poetry is a synthesis of the natural world and poetic sensibility.

The program is limited to 25 people, and registration is required. Registration can be taken in person at Southbury Public Library, which is at 561 Main Street South, or by calling the library at 262-0626.
