Cancer Society Sells Daffodils

The American Cancer Society is holdings its annual Daffodil Days to raise money for educational programs and patient services throughout Southwestern Connecticut.

Avance Esthetiques Day Spa in the Sand Hill Plaza in Newtown will be selling daffodils on behalf of the cancer society on March 30. Bunches are $5 each. The spa is involved to honor many clients and staff who have been diagnosed with cancer and to reach out to the community of Newtown.

As part of their philanthropic efforts, the spa also has participated in the ACS’s Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk that takes place every October. One of the top fundraisers for this event, the spa, owned by Judy Volpe, has participated every year since its inception in 1994.

This year 1.2 million Americans will be diagnosed with cancer, 15,400 of whom live in the state of Connecticut. One in three Americans will hear the words “You have cancer” in their lifetime.

Funds raised by Daffodil Days will support the ACS programs of cancer research, education, and services for local cancer patients and their families.

Information about the cancer society’s programs and services is available by calling toll-free 800/ACS-2345 24 hours a day, seven days a week, or by visiting the Web site at www.cancer.org. These provide up-to-date information on specific cancer diagnosis, treatments, local patient support, and educational programs.
