NEW ENGLAND WATERCOLORS
(with cut)
NEW YORK CITY -- A selection of watercolors by Barbara Ernst Prey will be at
Jensen Fine Arts, in association with E.B. Harrington & Co, from January 21
through February 8. Scenes of mid-coastal Maine, rural western Pennsylvania,
Long Island and Connecticut will be featured, along with delicate still lifes
of shells and flowers. Prey creates distinctive, realistic watercolors that
are rendered in sharp focus with accents of looser handling and varied
brushstrokes. Through her characteristic use of light and color, Prey
transforms familiar scenes -- sheep in a meadow, quilts billowing on a line, a
wicker chair on a porch, sea shells against old lace -- into evocative
compositions.
A reception will be at 4 East 77th Street, on Wednesday, January 20, from 6 to
8 pm. She will give a gallery talk on Thursday, January 21 at 7 pm.
A graduate of Williams College with a master's degree from Harvard Divinity
School, Barbara Prey has received a Fulbright Scholarship and a Henry Luce
Foundation Grant. Last summer she was an "Artist in Residence" at the
Westminster School, Simsbury, Conn.
Gallery hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 11 am to 5 pm, and by appointment,
212/861-6008, or 566-1147.
