Spiro Signs Up Partisans
When Chris Spiro announced his candidacy for first selectman last spring, he
vowed to get residents to switch to the Democratic party.
He's been true to his word.
Late this week, he had already talked more than 50 unaffiliated voters into
re-registering as Democrats, according to Karin Aurelia in the office of the
Registrars of Voters.
"He comes in every day that we're open with a new one," she said.
Voting laws say that unaffiliated voters can switch to a party without a
waiting period. However, if a Republican wanted to switch to the Democratic
Party, he or she would be required to wait three months before voting in an
election or caucus.
