The Aquifer Needs Protection
The Aquifer Needs Protection
Dear Editor:
As a long-time resident of Newtown, I am writing to voice my support for the upzoning proposal currently before the P&Z. The aquifer under us knows no boundaries and must be protected at all costs. I consider this not about my generation, but of future ones to come. If we donât protect our water supplies, what are we leaving for them?
As I understand it, the state has issued the proposed guidelines, so they are not arbitrary. Too many houses on too little land poses a threat to our wells. Itâs my hope that the Planning and Zoning Commission passes this very important regulation without hesitation.
A town ought to have the right to preserve the character of the community. The United State Corps of Engineers has recently enacted wetlands regulations, which bodes well for this type of upgrade.
