Fifth Grade And Kindergarten Connecting Through Books

By Jill Logan

On Feb 7, 2000, the fifth grade students of Mrs Sevarino’s class and Mrs. Kennedy’s kindergarten class got together and made 100 paper chain links of our favorite books that we have read together and alone. This activity took place in the kindergarten room. The kindergartners and the fifth graders enjoyed this activity very much because it was a chance to see the favorite books of a lot of different people. It was neat to see all of the different kinds of books and genres that children like.

The kindergarten kids mostly liked fiction books like Pokemon and The Ginger Bread Man. The fifth graders liked more nonfiction books like Running Out Of Time and other realistic books.

We did this activity because we wanted to make links of all the books we have read and to have a fun activity on the 100th Day. This was a fun activity to do because it was very interesting to see the differences of books people like!
