Oakville Man Killed In I-84 Crash
An Oakville man was killed late on the night of April 16 on Interstate-84 when
the auto he was driving hit a tree alongside the highway, state police said.
State police said motorist Steven B. Cunningham, 31, of 70 Cummings Avenue,
Oakville, was driving a 1995 Mercury Sable eastbound on I-84, west of Exit 10,
at about 11:20 pm, when the car went off the right lane of the two eastbound
travel lanes, veered to the right for no apparent reason, went down a small
grassy embankment and struck a tree head-on.
Hawleyville firefighters extricated Mr Cunningham, who had suffered massive
chest and abdominal injuries, according to state police.
Mr Cunningham was pronounced dead on arrival at Danbury Hospital where he had
been transported by the Newtown Volunteer Ambulance Corps.
The accident is under investigation, state police said.
