HARTFORD â More than 40,000 people have seen âSalvador Daliâs Optical Illusionsâ since it opened on January 21 at Wadsworth Atheneum. The special exhibition is the best-attended show at Americaâs oldest public art museum in at least a decade, and is likely to surpass âRobert Mapplethorpe: The Perfect Moment,â presented at the same venue in 1989, for attendance figures.
Tickets to âSavador Daliâs Optical Illusionsâ have been sold to patrons in 28 states, including Washington state, Arizona, Colorado, Texas, Wisconsin and Minnesota.
âOptical Illusionsâ offers visitors a major survey of Daliâs trompe lâoeil work. It is also a celebration of the Wadsworth not nly being first museum in history (in 1934) to purchase a Dali painting, but also the also first to present an exhibition of Surrealist art.
The last date to see âSalvador Daliâs Optical Illusionsâ at Wadsworth Atheneum is Sunday, March 26. The show then travels to the Hirschhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden in Washington, D.C. (April 19 to June 18), and then to the Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art in Edinburgh (July 23 to October 1).
For the final weekend of the show in Hartford, the Wadsworth Atheneum will be open until midnight on Friday, March 24; until 6 pm on Saturday, March 25; and until 10 pm on Sunday, March 26.
