Sandy Hook Man Shot And Killed In Bridgeport
Bridgeport police are investigating the July 26 homicide death of Darryl W.
Anderson, 39, of Old Bridge Road, Sandy Hook.
Bridgeport Police Captain John Donovan, head of the detective bureau, said
Wednesday that Mr Anderson, who was a Bridgeport business owner, died from a
gunshot wound to the chest.
The chief state medical examiner's office ruled the death to be a homicide
after a Monday autopsy.
While he was bleeding from the chest, Mr Anderson drove a Chevrolet Suburban
to the front of Gigante Supermarket near the intersection of State Street and
Norman Street at about 10:30 pm, Capt Donovan said. Mr Anderson went inside
the store to call for help, but collapsed at a telephone in the store.
Mr Anderson was later pronounced dead at St Vincent's Hospital.
Police suspect that Mr Anderson may have been the victim of a robbery and are
working on leads in the case.
The gunshot wound was inflicted by a handgun, the captain said. Police are
awaiting detailed results from ballistics tests and autopsy tests.
The police investigation is proceeding well and hopefully will indicate who
shot Mr Anderson, Capt Donovan said.
The captain didn't disclose where or when Mr Anderson was shot, but said it
was not inside the supermarket.
Mr Anderson was the husband of Mary Moore Anderson and the father of Jason and
Rachel Anderson, all of Sandy Hook.
Born in Meriden, Mr Anderson was a Trumbull and Newtown resident most of his
life.
He was the owner of the Astro Moving Company in Bridgeport. He was a Monroe
Little League baseball coach and sponsored a team. He enjoyed many outdoor
sporting activities.
Survivors also include his father, Martin Anderson of Trumbull, and three
brothers, Dana and Dale Anderson of Stratford and Dwayne Anderson of Georgia.
He was predeceased by his mother, Eleanor Anderson.
The funeral was held on July 31 at the Salem Lutheran Church in Bridgeport
with the Rev Blake Wahmester, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Mt Grove
Cemetery, Bridgeport.
Memorial contributions in Mr Anderson's name may be made to the charity of
one's choice.
The Larson Funeral Home of Bridgeport handled the funeral arrangements.
