PRWC Names Belden

Executive Director

The Pomperaug River Watershed Coalition (PRWC) has named James Belden of Newtown as its new executive director. Mr Belden is an environmentalist who played a primary role in forming Newtown’s Pootatuck Watershed Association (PWA), modeling it on the PWA. He has been a member of the Newtown Planning and Zoning Commission and is a member of the town’s Legislative Council. He has spent years working in the nonprofit environmental and public service areas

As president and chair Mr Belden guided the PWA in addressing water quality and quantity issues for the benefit of Newtown and its residents.

The PRWC focuses on protecting and preserving the Pomperaug Watershed. The 90 square mile watershed, which has been called one of the finest sources of water in Connecticut, is contained mainly within Woodbury, Southbury and Bethlehem.

“The coalition has had ten wonderful years of doing hard and relevant work in watershed protection for the benefit of the surrounding communities,” said Mr Belden. “It is now poised to make a whole new set of accomplishments in pursing its mission. I’m excited and proud to be a part of that, to take the momentum that the coalition has and run with it.”
