The Turkey Trot

By Dan DeLaVega and Christopher Parker

The “Turkey Trot” at Middle Gate School was run two weeks ago by all the grades.

The “Turkey Trot” was held to help families in need through a food drive. The “Trot” was a cross country walk, run, or jog two times around the outside borders of the school.

The “Turkey Trot” was run by Mrs Cooper, a physical education teacher at Middle Gate School. She said that it was a chance for students to get out and get some exercise.

Two grades ran it at a time and the parents were welcome to come to cheer their children on. The trail covered one-half mile for students in younger grades and one mile for the older grades. Erik Dreher, the fifth grade winner, said, “It felt great to win and it was a lot of fun running in it.”

What a great way to help families in need so that they could have a joyful Thanksgiving.

Mrs Wenblad’s Rugs

By Carly Doherty and

Jennifer Tichon

Clink... clink... clink... There goes another student making a rug in Mrs Wenblad’s classroom.

Mrs Wenblad has a long story of how she got interested in weaving. She once had sheep at her house which got her interested in wool and weaving.

Mrs Wenblad decided to bring her knowledge into her second grade classroom by having students make rugs. It has gone so well she has decided to do it every day.

Mrs Wenblad has been making rugs for 25 years. The only problem has been getting 24 to 25 students to make their own rugs. Other than that there have been no problems.

The students think it is neat to make rugs in school.
