Spirit Of Women Wellness Weekend, Girls’ Night Out October 2

DANBURY — Danbury Hospital’s Spirit Wellness Weekend is returning to the Danbury Fair Center Court (lower level) on Saturday, October 2, from noon to 4 pm. Come out for a day of learning with free health screenings and an informative, entertaining programs that combine fun, friendship, and health education for women.

Danbury Hospital’s Spirit Wellness Weekend features a variety of health and wellness screenings. In recognition of Breast Cancer Awareness Month, there will be plenty of information about prevention and early detection of breast cancer, including diet and exercise, breast self exams, advances in breast imaging technology, genetic counseling for risk based on family history, research and clinical trials, surgical procedures as well as care and support programs.

Mammography appointments can also be scheduled during the event.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, seven million women still need to be screened for breast cancer. Statistics show that breast and gynecological cancers are among the leading malignancies that occur in women —together affecting more than 280,000 Americans in 2008, according to the American Cancer Society.

“Most women will have no breast cancer risk factors other than being a woman and increasing age,” said Patrice Hough RN, MSN, manager, Praxair Cancer Center at Danbury Hospital. “For women at high risk because of family history or other risk factors, it’s essential to have a conversation with your doctor to discuss this risk.” Ms Hough and other breast health professionals from the Praxair Cancer Center will be at the Spirit Wellness Weekend providing information on the latest medical and technological advancements in breast health and mammography screenings.
