Road Restrictions Announced For Thursday’s 5K Turkey Trot
Various roads in the center of Newtown will be impacted by the ninth annual [naviga:u]Newtown Turkey Trot 5K Run and Walk[/naviga:u], scheduled for Thursday, November 22, between the hours of 7:45 and 9 am.
The 5K course covers at least part of the following roads: Church Hill Road, The Boulevard, Schoolhouse Hill Road, Wendover Road (walkers only), Main Street, Glover Avenue, Meadow Road, Elizabeth Street, Grand Place, and Queen Street.
One of the largest impacts for travelers on Thursday, according to Newtown Police Sergeant Jeff Silver, will be the lane shifts on Main Street.
“Northbound will be shifted to the left, as indicated with a cone pattern, and southbound will be shifted to the right,” Sgt Silver told The Newtown Bee on November 20. Those shifts will provide space for runners, who will be traveling south on the major roadway from its intersection of Schoolhouse Hill Road to Glover Avenue.
In addition, there is no overnight parking on town roads during winter months due to a town ordinance. That ban will be extended until at least 9 am Thursday.
Organizers suggest making appropriate plans and allowing for extra time if travel through the Borough is required during the road race.
Advance registration is closed for tomorrow’s event, but organizers have announced there will be limited day-of registration. Those who wish to participate should report to Newtown Middle School, 11 Queen Street, by 7:15 Thursday morning. They will then need to walk to the starting line at Hawley School, 29 Church Hill Road. Registration after November 1 was $30 per person.
