Christopher Joseph Dennis

Christopher “Wackit, Smasher, CD” Joseph Dennis, 42, Waterbury, a longtime resident of Newtown, died August 20, in St Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, after a work-related accident. He was born July 9, 1970, in Phoenix, Ariz.

Mr Dennis was the commissioner of the Newtown Men’s Softball League, and part of several teams all over New England. He was very well liked in the softball community, as attested to in the Facebook page created by friends: Chris Dennis Memorial Softball Tournament. His last at bat was a game-winning home run.

He and his fiancée Shelley Weinhaus were planning a December wedding. He is already missed by a loving family, parents Robert and Bernadette Macchiaverna Dennis of Danbury; sister Stephanie and her husband Gil Pinto of Waterbury; brothers and sisters-in-law to be, Neal, Shari, Rick, and Laura Weinhaus; several nieces and nephews; and the Bassett, Dennis, Winans, Chesto, Macchiaverna, Danieli, and McAfee families.

Calling hours at Jowdy-Kane Funeral Home on Granville Avenue in Danbury will be Friday, August 24, from 5 to 8 pm. A Mass will take place Saturday, August 25, at St Gregory the Great Church, 45 Great Plain Road, Danbury, at 10 am. There will be a gathering after the services at Treadwell Park in Newtown.

The family requests donations be made to the Chris Dennis Memorial Fund, PO Box 459, Ridgefield CT 06877.
