Oil Painting Demo At SCAN Meeting

Shauna Shane of Willington will offer a demonstration on painting with oil during the next Society of Creative Arts of Newtown (SCAN) meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, November 29, at 1:30 pm. The meeting is open to the public and will be held at Newtown Meeting House, at 31 Main Street in Newtown (at the flagpole). Admission is free.

Ms Shane’s paintings are light-filled expressions of the world she sees around her. She has a classical academic training and has been influenced by the impressionistic paintings of Joaquin Sorolla, John Singer Sargent, Edgar Payne and Carl Rungus. In her demonstration she will be working from a still life that she will set up.

Working from life, Ms Shane’s landscapes, still life and figurative paintings have been exhibited in national and international competitions across the country including Oil Painters of America in Chicago, as well as Salmagundi Club and American Artist professional League in New York City. Before moving to Connecticut, Ms Shane was chosen for the prestigious resident artist position at Yellowstone National Park.

Ms Shane’s paintings are also displayed in her home gallery, Fenton River Gallery in Willington. She has work in galleries in Massachusetts and Montana as well.
